:sum9: THX kittenface, and Beth. Here are some more barn owlet pics. First, the Swiss Pro-Riet owlies had laid 8 eggs. We have only seen 5 owlets. I was watching last week and lo and behold, I saw 6 owlets in the box! I emailed pro-riet in german, and they answered back that looking at my pic they are shocked! They only counted 5 also. 1 has been always hiding close behind another one LOL! They will be banding them on Sept 1st, so with the time difference, I would check Aug 31st, their day is our night, etc. You may get lucky and see the "hand" coming down from the roof grabbing an owlet out!

Image
You can barely see head of sixth owlet in back

Image
Here you can see all of them

Also, have been watching our NESTKAST Live from the Netherlands. They have 4 owlets that survived that clutch (at least 1 was lost at early stage). They are now fledging and can be seen on the roof of the box, which is in a hangar. I have only been able to get pics of 3. The baby originally wouldnt come out with the other 3, he was scared and stayed in main part of the box. I think the oldest may have fledged outside now, not sure, but baby came out into entranceway, and appears to be able to climb outside on ledge to be with the others. You can tell from his fluffy tummy he is the baby. The other 2 can fly to the camera LOL and land on it, then fly back to the box. They are adorable!

Image
Aren't they too cute sitting up there?!

Hello!

Last week I got to attend a banding session for 3 barn owls. It was at a farm of a colleague near here and it was great to see! I also saw barn owls get banded there last year.

I took home with me 3 pellets and broke them open to see what I could find. That was also great!!

You can see pictures of the banding this year and last year, and the pellet pictures at our website:
