Gulp!!!! Remove those thoughts from your mind...losing Scout? I would be crushed... :sosad

The male does make the bowl, several, actually and the female chooses...I can't remember who chooses the site (will have to go look that one up). I do know in other bird populations, the male chooses the location and the female either accepts or rejects...

I do remember Froona saying that the territory is the most important...then the mate....

I think that you are right SGB about how the falcon is more attached to the site and not the mate - I think too that is why we thought that Victory would be back no mater where they let her go.

I am writing to Donna about the matter and about the web cams as they are down

This posting was taken from the Cleveland blog

Scout won’t really have to do anything to attract a mate. Basically, a male will cruise into town via migration/normal wanderings that would be expected from an unmated falcon without a territory. This can happen at any time of the year but birds will be on the move more in fall and winter just because the nature of migration. The city as a falcon territory will be attractive to him (cliff fronts, nest box, food source). In the absence of Orville, the newbie won’t be chased out of town and will be free to look around. In the course of checking things out he’ll also find that there’s a female on site as well. Then, when the time is right (courtship season based on length of day that get the hormones flowing) he’ll step up and start courting and a bond will form. If there would happen to be more than one male they would compete with each other and Scout would accept the victor just because the loser would be run out by the dominant male. Pretty simple and basic!

and here is how she replied to my e-mail quiry about the situation with Scout

A new male will come into the territory sooner or later. Scout won’t leave just because there isn’t a male around now. Remember it is the “off season” – there are no young to raise and the hormone levels are low since it isn’t nesting. Nothing to do at this time of year except eat, sleep and molt.

Bottom line, this is how peregrines act this time of year. Scout’s behavior this August is exactly the same as it was last August despite there is no male.

Thanks, rosekk, for sharing the info about Scout and her nest site.

SGB, I had completely forgotten about the unknown company offering to continue the cam for free. Shame on me! Wish we knew who to thank for that.

Here is a message from Lindsay, the tech person for the web cams

The company who generously streamed our Falcon Cam during the budget crunch is called MultiMedia Pros. Rich Chadwick is the president of the company based in Massachusettes.

I swear I've had the cam open almost all day---recording...a couple of times the "disco ball" kicked in....but it made me think of Orville...he would often set it off when he landed near the ledge cam...its still so hard for me to accept that he is gone.... :sosad2

but, I keep hoping for a glimpse of Scout...I'm sure the kids have moved on to parts unknown..and I bet they are travelling together....having a blast...

Thanks Reenie...Ammo Land?! tsk, tsk...

I wish some of these migrating falcons would winter in my neighborhood...leaving my bird feeders alone, of course...
