Looking across town from my window I can see CJ on the box ledge, facing out. You can see his tail on the camera. Mourning dove feathers this morning.

Thanks, Greg! I thought I saw a tail belonging to someone sitting on the edge of the box earlier & I watched for the tail to move & didn't see anything. Maybe he's taking a nap! :laugh

I also saw the tail there this morning. Thanks, Greg, for letting us know that it was CJ.

I admit I'm just guessing from apparent size. But mourning dove feathers are more evidence that he was around yesterday morning. I saw a big looking falcon on the building yesterday afternoon that I think was Red Girl.

Thanks Greg, so reassuring to have your eyes on the situation, like we have Reenie and others in Harrisburg. BTW, Mom was written about being the oldest living female falcon in PA! So may Red Girl follow in her mother's "footsteps", or should I say "wings"!!!! The same goes for dear CJ as well.

Yellow-billed cuckoo and scarlet tanager (female) feathers this morning. CJ is hunting over woods somewhere.

A big falcon perched on the box ledge yesterday afternoon must have been Red Girl. The falcons seem to be settling into the off-season pattern of the previous pair, with the male bringing prey back to the building to pluck most days, and the female plucking a lot of her prey elsewhere.

From all the cuckoos I think that CJ must be hunting over woods and grabbing cuckoos off the canopy. He could have caught the tanager the same way. The previous male caught at least one tanager, too. They're fairly common here in the summer, but hard to see at the tops of trees.

I agree with SGB about the Scarlet Tanager. But that is what they do!!! Just don't want to see it first hand. LoL

And then CJ showed up just now for a quick check of the scrapes also.

Red Girl paid a visit earlier this morning...

I think CJ might have been on the nest box ledge just out of cam range because Red Girl spent most of her time looking out from the lower left corner of the nest box.

Labor Day Weekend carnage on the Brandywine Building sidewalks; 1 pigeon, 1 yellow-billed cuckoo, and (sorry folks) 2 Baltimore orioles (1m, 1f). More woodland birding by CJ, just like his Dad.

Also, exploded feathers from another pigeon, probably caught this morning, several blocks from the Brandywine Building at 8th and Market Streets. This is the second bunch of pigeon feathers that I've seen at that location in the past couple months. Not a good Cooper's hawk place (only a few tiny trees), so I suspect that the sky overhead is somewhere that Red Girl goes when she wants to commune with nature.

Thanks for the menu report, Greg! Guess CJ is going where his daddy taught him to hunt!

Greg, Your menu reports are always appreciated. Red Girl's dad in Harrisburg brought in YB Cuckoos, too, but can't recall Baltimore Orioles being on the menu. Have found more than one pretty much intact YB Cuckoo downtown several times. Last year Red Girl's mom was seen flying in with a Downy Woodpecker in her grasp. Now of course we'd all prefer for falcons to take Starlings, Pigeons, and House Sparrows. A House Sparrow would be more like an appetizer to a hungry falcon!

Also a black-billed cuckoo and (probably this afternoon) a mourning dove.
