Two in the trench again...... hope someone fills those trenches with gravel for next season. We can't be lucky every time a little guy gets out of the nest & stuck in the trench. These guys are grown enough they made it back, but, in the future........????

I agree--something should be done to keep them from falling out of the box. So far we've been fortunate that the falls haven't hurt them, but there's still the possibility!

Actually, I see that there's at least one out of the box now. He may be exploring & got out of the box deliberately. I think they probably didn't know how the setup was going to work cause last year there was only 1 in the box, but this year they can see how the setup works for a full clutch!

There was just a feeding, but only 3 in the box so the one exploring didn't get to eat.

Yes, with only one in the nest and lots of room...... that chick fell out at a very early age and only got back by Mom pulling him back in.

Thanks, Carly--that's what I figured. But they might want to figure out something for next year so that a young chick doesn't fall out & get hurt!

Hi All,
Happy to report that the falcon banding was a complete success by all counts. Four chicks banded and returned to parental care. Judy Camuso of Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and Chris Martin of New Hampshire Audubon did a great job of handling and banding the falcons...

oh, and three males and one female...what a great day to be a falcon...or a biologist. I have quite the "to do" list today but am very excited to reate the banding and some photos.

Enjoy,
Patrick
