Nancy - Great catch of Red Girl today (I did happen to see her band)! I haven't had much luck catching her or CJ at home lately.

Greg - Thanks for all the menu reports. One thing for certain is that there appears to be no shortage of food around Wilmington. I just wish that CJ would stay away from the woods and from the beautiful Scarlet Tanagers and Baltimore Orioles.

Today's evidence points to exploits of Red Girl (although CJ can't be ruled out): pigeon feathers blowing downwind from the Brandywine Building, and a partly fed upon, dried out carcass of a clapper rail on the sidewalk in front of the Hotel Dupont (wasn't there yesterday; probably blew off a roof where she took it). First time I've noticed one of those downtown.

Thanks for today's menu report, Greg. I'm glad that Red Girl appears to dine on more mundane birds such as pigeons and leave the little songbirds alone.

I did catch one of the falcons lurking on the edge of the nest box early this morning....

Good catch on the bird on the ledge. A big United Way campaign banner has just been installed, covering the top ledges around the corner of the building to the northwest. It looks like the falcons won't be traumatized.

A clapper rail seems at least as exotic to me as tanagers and orioles. I'll be interested to see what other stuff Red Girl brings in. Her predecessor was responsible for a kestrel (which had bothered her a lot, asking for it), a green-winged teal, a green heron, an upland sandpiper and an American crow (all too big to blame on Caesar, except for the kestrel).

Nice catch this morning, Catbird, & thanks for the nest info, Greg! I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't know what a clapper rail is, so I Googled it & found a pic:

Here is the link to Cornell for more info:

Interesting reports today. Can't imagine how a Peregrine could catch any form of Rail, as they're pretty elusive. This one must have gotten too bold!

Or migrating, maybe. If the rail was crossing the Delaware River at first light and the falcon already was hunting, the rail would have been defenseless.

A falcon is perched on the box ledge now, facing out across town; looks just out of the left end of the camera image.

Great crested flycatcher head on the sidewalk this morning. I guess CJ heard the pleas to give the orioles and tanagers a break.

Me too. Thanks. But they're at least a foot or two off camera, and invisible.

One is in the box now, out of the rain. Red Girl I think, but I just see the back.

Thanks Greg. I just looked and saw no one. You have to be at the right time I guess. Thank goodness for the rain. Harrisburg is in a delema right now. Might want to read about that.

They look chicken size but only weigh as much as pigeons. I charge Red Girl with the clapper rail and CJ with the great crested flycatcher. The fall migration may provide the falcons with opportunities to vary their diet.
