I am so glad that all the kids seem to be flying so well! They were all accounted for a little bit ago.

Thanks for the links to the videos, Michele!

All kids accounted for & safe 15 minutes ago. Falcon Watch is now ending. Seems kinda early, but they must think they're all flying well, so that's a good sign!

There was talk on the SF forum about juvies not normally returning to the ledge after they fledge, which I think is kind of unusual from those I'm familiar with. However, Aleta has returned a couple of times & there is a juvie on the ledge right now & it is believed he/she is settling in for the night!

Every nest site is different and every chick is different. Sometimes they return and sometimes they do not. they do in Edmonton, you jsut do not see them on cam.
they did at Toronto residential last year.
they had the cat walk at Rochester all those years and that is where they went.
they returned at Etobikoke, but not always.
I can go on with the list.
Nothing unusual

Nice update from Glenn on the fledging progress. The kids look to be flying beautifully based on the pics. Nice prey transfer too! I'm so glad for the falcon fans here that its been a good year!

Falcon withdrawal can be very painful, so...

I've uploaded two new pages.

Thursday shots from noon showing Aleta and DL flying and after work, showing how much work supplying the juvenile falcons with prey really is. You've already seen one of these shots of an attempted mid-air grab of prey. Now you can see the complete sequence.

Friday morning early, I caught up with Alexea as she was keeping watch over Ziva. She had been missing for over a day and was found by an observant bird watcher, Tristan, that reported her location late Thursday evening. You can see how alert Ziva is and you can even make out her yellow band in one of the photos.

We had a great fledging this year, luck was with us, but also some incredible dedication from so many volunteers. I want to add my personal thanks to all that helped make this season a safe and happy one.

Best to all, have a great weekend and I hope to see you next Saturday at the party.

Post on SF forum by Glenn Stewart:

Aleta found injured in SF

This is the falcon reported earlier by Anne that Animal Control was called to pick up. We now know that she was found with head trauma and is being cared for at the Peninsula Humane Society.

Please do not call them--I am in touch and will post updates. They are extremely busy at this time of year. They do an excellent job so you may be re-assured that she will receive good care with an opportunity for release.

I have not posted anything until this time because little was known. Animal Control told me that the bird was not banded. They did not transport the bird until mid day today. It took some time for Peninsula Humane to evaluate the bird and to finally call me. I have a good rapport with the folks there and am confident in their abilities. Some rehab operations like to hang on to birds--Peninsula Humane is not one of those places. they now understand who this bird is, that she has been on the wing for just a week or so, and that she has a family that she can be easily re-united with.

At this time, her pupils are fixed and dilated and she is not using her legs--probably the result of an impact with reflective glass. She is also dehydrated. The vets can quickly fix the dehydration problem and it is possible and likely that rest will solve the disorientation. If she perks up, I will pick her up immediately and drive her to the PG&E nest ledge for release. Birds in this condition sometimes make it and sometimes not. We will hope for the best. Thanks for your patience, --glenn@scpbrg

I am sorry to hear this news. I hope that she has a full and speedy recovery and can be back flying with her family soon. What did that mean I wonder that she is not using her legs? And the not banded part, confusing. Thanks mwplay for letting us know.

I am so sorry to hear that Aleta has been injured, and hope she will be able to make a complete recovery.

The head trauma is worrying, and so is the fact that she is not using her legs at the moment. However, I know people who have had dealings with the Peninsula Humane Society, and they have the reputation of being very good.

Thank you for the information, mwplay, and please keep us updated on how Aleta is doing.

Just posted on SF Forum:

Sent from Glenn Stewart's iPhone...

"She seems alert to her surroundings but does not stand. She was given some food yesterday. There will be xrays taken this pm. I will check in tomorrow." --Glenn Stewart

I have put up the photo he took of Aleta in recovery at the Penninsula Humane Society clinic on the discussion groups photo page. The link is long, so I have created a shortcut link here:

Wish I could report better news, but we'll see how it goes.

Best regards,
Glenn Nevill

Latest update on Aleta from the SF forum:

Just got off the phone with Glenn Stewart. The Penninsula Humane Society is currently swamped and was not able to get the x-rays done yesterday. So he has taken possession of Aleta to take her to another vet down south, someone he has worked with in the past. Her condition is the same, still unable to stand. He thinks he will know something later this afternoon after the x-rays are made and studied.
If desired, you can help with donations via the link on the web camera page:

Regards,
Glenn Nevill

Thanks for the update, Michele. Since she still can't (or won't) stand, it doesn't sound good! :-(

Thanks MIchelle for update.

It could be something , very simple, why she cannot walk. Look at Mariah after her fight. they did not know if she would make it and voila. so ,we pray.
