I'll look at her when I get home; most pictures don't display on my desktop.

A peregrine was on the box ledge 40 minutes ago. Gone now. New mourning dove feathers two blocks down 11th Street in front of the Hotel Dupont.

I'm currently on the Board of the Delaware Museum of Natural History. As promised, I took the mystery beak I found on Wednesday to the Museum and showed it to Jean Woods, the Curator of Ornithology. She and I looked at study skins and were able to identify the beak as a killdeer's. By the way, I picked it up on the sidewalk in front of the Nemours Building (the one between the Brandywine Building and the Hotel) so it's clear that the falcons are perching on all three buildings along 11th Street to pluck prey.

I looked up the killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) and found an article about one spotted here in the Netherlands, on April 3 and 5 of 2005. It probably (likely) was blown off course by strong western winds and had no choice but to fly on to Europe.
http://www.museumkennis.nl/nnm.dossiers ... 03411.html (Article is in Dutch.) It was seen in a nature reserve in Friesland, Rottige Meenthe.

They're close to ringed plovers, but bigger (blackbird or thrush size). They nest and feed on grassy areas, like school playgrounds.

Thanks for your continued info on the "food" for Red Girl and CJ. They are very successful in their hunting. Don't like what they catch, but we are only human. LOL

A falcon is on the box ledge now. Flicker and mourning dove remains on the sidewalks.

Still on the box ledge now, and was two hours ago. Red Girl, I think.

Love the food reports.
I noticed a flicker at the Weber site in Edmonton. I love flickers, so although I know our falcons took it, I was sad. I also see a few beaks and feet of Grebes.

Our old male at Clinical always hunted Franklin gulls. Never pigeons. Now there is mostly pigeons ,with new male. . . .

One of the old pair here caught a pied-billed grebe once. No gulls that I know about. Franklin's gulls are probably just the right size, and we don't have any.

Thanks, Greg, for reporting your sightings of Red Girl today. Of course now that I'm home and have the cam up, she's not there. Perhaps she or CJ will make an appearance later.

P.S. I forgot to thank you for your efforts in identifying the birds eaten by Red Girl and CJ, especially in cases where all that remains is only a beak!

One of the falcons was just in the nest box. I think it was CJ, but I'm not sure as I couldn't see the bands. :?

The falcons were together on the Brandywine Building when I drove out of town this evening -- Red Girl on the box ledge and CJ two ledges to the left. Prey today: sora, flicker, tufted titmouse.

A cute little tufted titmouse? :-( Thanks, Greg!

Wow, a Sora. That really blows me away. Am going to be heading to Cape May on Thursday morning, and will be making a stop in Wilmington on the way. Hopefully Red Girl and CJ will be in the area.

Believe it or not, the sora was the sixth I've noticed since I started looking in 2003. The titmouse was the first I've seen, although they're small and easily overlooked.

CJ is doubtless responsible for the titmouse, but I don't know who's responsible for flickers, doves, soras, etc. Both of them, I guess.

Oh no, a Tufted Titmouse on the menu today???? They're the second friendliest birds at my bird feeders after the Carolina Chickadees.

As for the Sora that was also on the menu, I had to look it up. I'd never heard of such a bird before, but then I don't frequent marshes where these birds are commonly found according to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. There's more info here if anyone's interested:

Red Girl was checking things out this morning. She must have found everything to her liking, 'cause she didn't do any scraping or moving of stones.

Thanks for the info on the Sora, Catbird--I didn't know what it was either.

I agree about the Chickadees and Titmice. I have a glass pie bowl (don't know what its called, cause it doesn't seem right to call it a pie tin) on my back porch that I keep water in for the small birds & Carolina Chickadees are my most frequent visitors, Titmice also being frequent visitors. My cats love them, too, but fortunately they have to stay inside so all they can do is watch!
