No I don't think it's Trooper either. He may still have migrated and Durand - being young is just trying to attract a new mate not realizing that her mate will come back. Though I still find the after fight lack of rebonding strange but he may have been in a hurry or they may have bonded out of cam sight.

Remember last year in Rochester? When Archer migrated for the first time, Beauty did attract a new male and was seen bowing at the box with him and then a few weeks later Archer came back and mystery man was gone.

So we shouldn't assume the worst (I'm channelling Donna here  ).

I don't know Trooper & Durand & their habits as well as those of you who watch this nest all the time, so I can't really judge who is who, but I was wondering if Durand would "grab" a new mate this time of year if Trooper has simply migrated. I would think that hormones wouldn't be a factor this time of year, but I don't know for sure. That being said, it would be logical that this other bird is Trooper, since Durand seems to be welcoming him to the ledge. Like the rest of you, I would really like to see some bonding, because Trooper's swaying is very unique & that would be a pretty definite way of ID'ing him! I'm certainly hoping it is Trooper!

I think it's good to brainstorm all ideas and share with each other. Haven't had time to look at the videos, but will later. Thanks for all the pics, everyone!

FYI....I've emailed Donna so that maybe she can come take a look when she has time. Who knows what will happen...but I do feel this is a different male (unless Trooper has undergone a personality change and added a few specks to his bib)...maybe a floater passing through, maybe, like Carly said, jumping on this opportunity...and who knows what's been going on off cam..He's certainly not skiddish about the ledge..and seems very curious...

I've been going through all my video and have more pics...but I think they'll just be reduntant...too bad this "guy" isn't banded...certainly would help!!!

...and now, I gotta get busy...but, I'll keep the recorder on the cam!!!

Wow. starting from page 1 and ending on page 4 was quite the roller coaster.

Thank you so much to all your guys' awesome captures and reporting! This nest never really gives us a chance to recuperate.

Here are some comparisons of the intruder and ljames' and SGB's images. There are similarities including light feathers above the cere.

Also, It's my sense that they are not that comfortable with each other.

In Arles video posted 5:51 (her PBucket video), Durand approaches him hesitantly and when she gets close he rears back flaring his wings twice and then flies off. It's at the 1:01 minute mark.

In Coriena's video posted 9:00 at the 6:09 - 6:20 minute mark, Durand is whining. She seems alert, not relaxed. The whining continues through Coriena's second video.

Durand's not at ease but she's definitely curious about this (handsome & big) tiercel.

That's an interesting point, Mick...when I was watching that, here's my first weird thought (don't laugh)..."oh look, Durand's got a playmate...like a little brother.."...However, later on in the morning, they both looked more comfortable with each other...especially when it looked like Durand went into the box...invitation maybe? It is a most interesting turn of events, which has occupied my thoughts and time all day..(I keep stopping and looking at the cam/checking in here)...I'm getting NOTHING done!!!

Honestly you have good observation instincts. I hear nothing but then I'm sampling the red wine I just put in the beef stew I"m making  :sfcheers:

I need the red wine Carly!! I had another window open with Coriena's video. Maybe it was playing....I deleted the post  :-? I'm sorry!

I continue to see similarities in the intruder video with the pics and vids posted this morning.
Just Speculating though.
Pale yellow feet, white above cere, big, and the inner part of his eye is always very apparent.

FOUND THIS ARTICLE AND THE BOOK IS AT AMAZON.COM. THERE'S ACTUALLY AT LEAST ONE REAL PICTURE IN THE BOOK TOO, YOU CAN LOOK AT THE FIRST COUPLE OF PAGES.

Central Ohio author, illustrator to appear

Children's author Susan Sachs Levine of Upper Arlington and illustrator Erin McCauley Burchwell of Canal Winchester will sign copies and discuss their new book, Packard Takes Flight, on Saturday in the Cover to Cover bookstore.

The gathering will last from 2 to 4 p.m. at 3560 N. High St.

The book follows the adventures of a peregrine-falcon chick that falls from its nest atop the Rhodes Tower. In its quest to return home, the bird discovers COSI Columbus, the Franklin Park Conservatory, the North Market and other Columbus institutions and landmarks.

For more information, call 614-263-1624 or visit http://www.covertocoverchildrensbooks.com.

I went back to compare pictures of the "unknown" male this morning with the last pictures posted of Trooper, & guess what? I think it IS Trooper. Like I said earlier, I'm not as familiar with him as the rest of you. And comparing pictures of the intruder and the male this morning, I am fairly certain that this tiercel is NOT the intruder. (The intruder had many specs high up on his bib.)

oh my!!!!
nothing going on for weeks essentially...and then head spinning events.
might be big changes. and might be winter clothing.
but seems to my very untrained eye that Trooper was always waaaaay smaller than Durand and this "other" falcon today seems larger.
yet...cold weather makes birds fluff up feathers. and occasionally that causes colorations to look a bit different. and some of my chickens get paler looking legs in the winter just because they don't get so much sunlight on them. but..... I'm really new at this....
big excitement at any rate!!!

thanks for all the videos. thanks for all the pics. and thanks for all the brain storming.
:menorah: :cold: :sleigh: and :omg

well, I certainly do hope you are right, Catwoman...that would be awesome!!!! They do look similar...as I said earlier, if it is Trooper, then he has had a personality/behavior change...this falcon is much less timid, more curious...maybe due to his brief vacation (he's rested...fun in the sun..missed his honey!!! ) I'm waiting for his squeaky voice and quirky bow for a definite confirm!!! I don't think that will ever change!!!

Well, glory hallelujah! I'm getting this cam today & haven't been able to get it since early July! Now I'll have to check the other cams I haven't been able to get lately! Ran Registry Mechanic last night because I couldn't get on the Internet, so maybe it fixed the problem! :party2: :yip :bravo :cheerlead:
