Happy New Year bev. and to everyone. I can't believe that it's been such a long time since we saw a juvie here. Wonder if their hunting grounds are a good distance from the nest. It would be nice to see them together again, or a picture from the site, hint, hint.

Yeah, its kinda surprising that all of a sudden we stopped seeing them. I know you said that your pics from last year ran into January, & I remember that, too--when they could keep the cam up. & there are a couple of people recording the cam so it isn't a matter of us just plain missing them! :ny8:

Thanks for the picture. :ny5: What a beautiful sight. I'm busy making a big New Year's Dinner, so haven't watched much, but I do have the cam up and check it out when I walk by.

I also noticed what could have been a tail, but I thought that was too good to be true! :ny4:

Yippee! A juvie! Thanks to all of you who were watching and caught that one moment in time.

I think that current thing is a large bug.

Wow! :ny2: What a great way to start the New Year - with a pic of last year's juvie :ny5: - maybe Froona :ny6: Plus I really am wondering what the heck kind of bug that was too - it must have been pretty big to show up so clearly in the cam - all I can think is maybe "Cicada" - but their antennae are very small, not like the one in the pic - mmmm ... giant moth???

Oh no, Pru, you have a new research project . . . identifying the giant bug! :laugh2

Mmm ... exactly what I thought too SusanE :P

But after just a small, 10 minute googling I can see that identifying Moths is not going to be as easy as identifying Birds - however, I think I have found enough extra info to see that the bug in the cam pic could quite possibly be a Giant Aussie Moth of some kind or another - just not sure which, mainly because the descriptions of the Moths that I have found so far do not say how big they are i.e. no length measurements! :x I mean this bug must be at least over 5 cms long, maybe 7 to 10 cm.

I may try again a bit later.
