It now looks like there will be no images from De Mortel this season.
A group of people, representing Alticom (owner of the tower), InterNl (host for the refresh images) the Dutch Bird protection association (host for the live streaming images on Beleef de Lente),
the Birdwatch group Gemert (owner of the nest box on the tower) and the municipality Gemert (of which De Mortel is part) have formed a work-group.
They never consulted with the foundation (owner of the webcams) and are now demanding full control over the webcams and other equipment.
This action was initiated by the Birdwatch group Gemert.

The foundation can not and will not hand over the full control and responsibility of the webcams and supporting equipment. It's as if you buy a beautiful, expensive car and a neighbour then gets to decide who can drive in it.

A counter-proposal is offered but if this newly formed work-group is holding on to their (unacceptable) demands, the foundation is going to remove everything from the tower. The foundation will not allow third parties to use anything that is their property.

So there you have it in a nutshell, not very pretty.

The basic problem is that those involved are all people with an ego that is much too large, all have very short fuses and they all think they are more important than the webcams
and the joy of the many people who watched these Falcons on the Internet!
The fact that the refresh page is off line is also a result of these clashing characters I assume.

Ingrid (still mad as heck and very, very sad )

This news is indeed shocking and sad. What must Froona be thinking? Maybe it will all work out as negotiations continue. What would Gemert be gaining with their demands if the cam and all equipment are removed? Surely, they will come to some sort of agreement. Sending positive energy across the pond . . . :snowflakewow: :snowflakewow: :snowflakewow:

:o OMG, I had to read this thing 3 times to try to figure out what was happening. People are the same everywhere, are they not? I am so sorry for all of you there in The Netherlands. I know how you love these two beautiful falcons. I cannot imagine a nesting season without Pa and S2. Hopefully, those involved in making the decisions will come to understand what a true miracle it is that takes place on the tower every year and come up with a solution. :(

Oh Ingrid! I can't believe that they can even do that!! What a horrible situation. I am so sorry that it cannot be easier for you there.

I too send positive thoughts and hope that everyone calms down enough to discuss and negotiate like reasonable people should.

That is disgusting what those people are doing! Wonder if we need a letter-writing campaign or petition to get them on track?

this is sad news indeed, Ingrid. Like SusanE, sending positive thoughts across the pond that negotiations will occur and the cams will come back on.

Beth, thanks for alerting me.

And why is that Ruud? My first instinct on reading this news was to specifically ask Ingrid for an address/email to write to. This situation is absurb!! Are these people Adults or Children :?: :?: :?: :!: :!: :!:

Do they not realize the audience this webcam has ALL OVER THE WORLD??? Not just in the Netherlands!!! Do they know how much money was donated by the viewers??? Apparently they don't care - so maybe they NEED to hear from us. This makes me so angry and I couldn't possibly type the words I want to REALLY say right now! Idiots!!!

I'm so, so, so sorry Ingrid!!!

I am just now getting home and reading of this tragedy!!! I am just speechless!!! I do not understand how these people, who allegedly are lovers and supporters of these beautiful birds, could create such chaos that now NO ONE WILL ENJOY THIS WONDERFUL NEST....including them...Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face...

Thank you for the email addresses DEF...and now I must collect my thoughts before writing....

Message from the Birdwatch group Gemert:

It's definite, NO WEBCAM IMAGES from De Mortel!!!
:sosad :sosad :sosad
Stupidity and egomaniacs have won! Froona's dream and ours has been shattered.

Here is a rough translation of DEF's above message...I'll work on it in a few

Next season no images of the peregrine falcons from the mortar on the Internet

In the upcoming breeding season will be no statues of falcons on the growing Alticom tower in the Mortar on the Internet show. But there is hope that the falcons will go back one successful brood rearing.

Several parties have in recent years have been strong at the pictures of the falcons on the Internet. In recent years that this was achieved. Late last year is uncertainty about the role and responsibilities of the various parties involved in the internet images.
The Vogelwerkgroep Gemert subsequently with Vogelbescherming Netherlands, Alticom, and the town InterNLnet Gemert-Bakel consultations. A joint proposal drawn up by them to clarify the roles and responsibilities regarding the images is unfortunately no agreement between all concerned parties led. As the breeding season is imminent given to the protection of the peregrine falcons and their underlying resting on the tower to go on the creation of the images on the internet. After the breeding season will be whether in the future images can be displayed on the Internet.

Good enough SGB .... this is what happens when the WRONG people get involved in these kinds of things. Poor Froona is probably crying in Heaven!!

I hope your happy RUUD!!! I hope your ALLLLLL proud of yourselves!!!

If I offend anyone, I'm sorry ... and I will remove my post if need be .... but this is just plain stupid, bizarre, idiotic .... and they know there's nothing any of us can do. But they will ALL be hearing from me - you can count on that!!
