It was just yesterday that we saw the peregrine on the roof of the nestbox, so it was probably this unbanded female. So we were right to be surprised to think that Sheila or Havoc would perch up there. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure that the pics we thought were Havoc were actually Havoc, cause I briefly looked back thru the pics & couldn't see any bands on that one either & we could always identify Havoc by his pink band. :? Of course, it is also possible that his feathers have grown more this time of year & they're just hiding his band. :? Maybe the 2 bonding weren't Havoc & another female. :? Boy, what a mystery! I will email Elise later & maybe she can shed some light on what's going on.

I don't know pearl1. So strange that someone has been in the nestbox so early for so many mornings lately. Such a puzzle. If there is a new female around, is that why we didn't see that much of the juvies after they fledged. :( Hope everybody is ok. This would be a big development if Sheila is no longer around, one worth reporting on the main page, so our suspicions must be off some how.

I'm kinda hoping that we're seeing another pair, but that's not necessarily good either cause if they like this box, there will probably be a battle with S&H over the box...

Hey IJames I really wish I knew what was going on here.It makes me wander who I've been seeing first thing in the morning these past few days. And since it's the weekend in Alcoa,we probably wont know anything until Monday.I wish I could have captured a better picture of who I thought was Sheila yesterday, but maybe we will see some thing later today.I'll watch as much as I can to see what happens.Have a great day ;)

Well ... I'm still thinking it is Havoc at the box the most these past few days, just by his face really as we haven't been able to see his legs clearly enough, but he is being visited by a new adult female.

As for Alcoa noticing enough to actually mention something on their webpage - don't hold yr breath! They have always been real slow to update it with info - but perhaps we should advise them what we are observing - in case no-one in there is watching any more. I am sure Elise would be interested.

Also Sheila is not getting any younger - the family tree has her joining Havoc way back in 2003.
Here's the page with their history:

Hey Pru thank you for finding the info about when Sheila first came to the nest box.You are right that Sheila isn't getting any younger, but it's hard to see another female with Havoc. This is like watching a bad episode of Lost, since there are more questions than answers.I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.Have a great day ;)

10 is not so old, but maybe too old to defend her nest against a younger female. I have only watched the site for 2 years, but I sure am attached to Sheila. Havoc without Sheila would be very sad. But worse, if both adults have been removed. And again where are the juvies? I've never watched 'lost' pearl but can only imagine what you mean. I did send a message to that 'contact us' site, so we'll see if anybody is awake down there at Alcoa and replies.

Did you send pictures, ljames? I was planning on contacting them, but this is Saturday in Australia so there probably won't be anyone to get the message til Monday.

Well, I'll wait & see what (if anything) you hear back. If they don't know about the intruder, I can send pics next week. Thanks for contacting them!

No, definitely an adult. Yellow on the upper beak.

I haven't looked at the pictures that closely yet, but will now, because of your concerns about the identity of the falcons we have seen recently.
Arjen has posted quite a few on my forum today:

Dorien posted two pictures from yesterday. I think that is Havoc.

And last Saturday another member posted a picture that looks like Sheila to me:

I don't think it is the same female. Compare ankles and bib. Obvious absence of bands on the second one as well as a shorter bib.

Also, Froona is only about 4 months old, so I doubt her plumage would look like this yet.
