Welcome :nicetomeet: indeed & thank you for bringing us a present too!!! A new Aussie pf nest - just what we needed!

I just checked out the blog & it sounds as tho they need some more funding to make the cam live to the www - but at least they are posting best vids to youtube - cool!

There is a video of the female. She apparently is called 'Mum' and the tiercel is 'Dad'. There were 3 eggs but now 2.

Thanks to all of you for your warm welcome :dancing3: I love to see that you are so delighted about the new nestsite :nosun: . I don´t know if they will have live streaming once the two eggs should hatch. I hope for the best!

In the moment there is only one more nestsite with babies but they are "only" barn owlets http://www.ustream.tv/theowlbox . So sorry

Nevertheless they are cuties, too. In our falconry we have got two barn owls, too. Barn owls are not very intelligent but nice to look at anyway.
We have no peregrine falcon anymore in our falconry but a friend of us (he also has his own falconry) has a peregrine tiercel. Next week my husband and I will visit him. He always allows us to go for a walk with his tiercel and a young bald eagle. That´s so awesome and we are looking forward so much to next week.

Enjoy and I will get in touch again if I find another unknown peregrine nestsite.

Bye bye :bonnet:

Karin

Sad confirmation
Posted on 20-09-2010
We’ve just noticed that at some stage today we’ve lost
another egg. Well, it’s still there but one appears to have been crushed, very
similar to a crunched ping-pong ball. It was noticed earlier today that dad
hopped up and kicked an egg so there’s a chance that may have done it.

Image
Confirmation of damaged egg
So officially we’re down to just the one remaining egg. Whether this is something
that both parents realise or not they have been spotted today mating again up
on top of the “Concrete Hilton” once more. Let’s hope nature takes its course.
We will now discuss whether we can remove the broken egg or not.

Hopefully they can produce more eggs to add! Sounds like the dad at a nest we read about a few years ago in the US..remember the dad kept stepping on the eggs and breaking them? Can't recall where that was but I do remember the story :?:

Thanks for the update kitten!

I was thinking the same thing, Carly. That was the dad at Westar in Topeka. I also hope this pair can produce more eggs. Thanks for posting that, Kitten!

Me too kittenface, thanks. Mum is such a pretty falcon.

Edited to add:
They have added a video of Mum tending to her egg.

"We arrived in today to find that yesterday’s damaged egg has disappeared now and must have been discarded overnight by our peregrines. Mum has spent most of today settling and re-settling into quite an impressive gravel nest. Something more comfortable, more sturdy...And dad is happier as he really struggled last year with 3 eggs and was never really able to settle properly. With the single egg left now he’s quite prepared to play his part in the incubating process. Egg shell colour appears to be a light brown colour, which is dissimilar to the very white 2nd remaining egg which was crushed yesterday, it appears."

Thanks for getting the video for us Mick.
Even if they don't lay any more we have the one left and boy that will be
a very spoiled child I'm sure. :smilesun:

Awww how sweet to see her tending her one egg & I was just thinking how it must be so difficult for a Dad to manage NOT damaging eggs when you consider how large those feet are! Of course Mum's are even bigger but they at least have an advantage in that they laid the eggs in the first place!!!

Oh my, only one egg left? I sure hope it hatches and they have a sweet little chick to raise. Aways so sad, after all their investment and care, the nest fails for whatever reason. Maybe something was wrong with the egg to start with and caused it to break easily. Still hoping the cam will go live.
