I just read on another site that one of the chicks here has died. I think it's little body is still there in the nest. I have no idea what happened, but another sad, sad loss.

I just checked the Derby Blog...and tho' not confirmed, it does appear that the smallest one has died...people started commenting on it this morning (Derby time)..they felt it was not getting enough to eat....

So sad....

Ljames, thanks for your pictures.

Their crops look not really full, they're not 'bursting', as should be.

As Carly mentioned earlier, maybe not enough prey around?

Geez, I got scared seeing only one in your picture, especially since in the series before that you were wondering why they were zooming. Glad to see the other 2 on the other side! :hmmmm

Yeah, Catwoman, when I opened the cam and saw that one, I nearly fainted, then I was like wait a minute they may be walking around. Looked on the other side and there they were. They are all together now.

OK...forgive me...but how did they do that...aren't they too young to be travelling that far? (oh...I just looked at the hatch dates...I guess not...) Gee, I hope they huddled back up before nightfall

Of Life and Death

So, as many webcam watchers are well aware, a second chick now looks certain to die.

Thanks for posting that, Arjen. I just checked the website & the latest report & a picture is that the little one did manage to right itself & stand up to eat, so there is hope.

I noticed a little bit ago that the one I thought was dead is in a different spot & thought that maybe mom moved it. But now that I can get a clear view of it, I can see that it is still moving a bit. I noticed that mom is giving this chick a lot of attention & this was also mentioned on the blog. So hard to tell with a refresh cam.

I just watched part of a feeding and it did not get up, although I saw it move.
I guess that they can't rescue it.

What a shame, to see a chick dying, that could be saved maybe. What are these programs all about anyway?

Well it's just the saddest thing. I have looked numerous times today, and each time she is with the sick baby. Even now, after dark, too. But I don't think it's moving anymore. :-(

I just saw it moving within the last 15 minutes. I think mom thinks it wants to be covered, & it looks like it keeps squirming to get out from under her. She really did give it most of her attention today. It looked like she even at least tried to feed it--it was holding its head up, but couldn't stand up.
