Please keep us updated when you find out anything this is so sad if S2 has been
replaced it seems all our nests are getting newbies

With help from Hans-Martin Gäng I got in contact with Dr. Peter Wegner, who is involved with the German PF organisation in Nordrhein Westfalen.
His reply was that it looked like a 3 over 7. And this is repeated two more times. If that is correct (and I think it is) this is a female from 2009, banded on May 15 in Kamp-Lintfort in Kreis Wesel.
I looked it up with Google maps:

S2 has not been positively seen since August 7. Hanny's video is a bit puzzling though,
it looks as if the falcon that was on the platform was chased off by the one that appeared to be in the nestbox. :confusedsun:

What I wouldn't give to have the nest - and ledge cam back on-line now . . . :wink:

on getting information from place to place :smilesun:

It sure did look like it got chased off, what is strange is the one inside didn't
bother it for a such a long time.
If this one is going to stick around I sure hope we will hear something about S2
maybe being someowhere else

That falcon is a juvie. How in the world could she dethrone S2? And in Hanny's video, it did look like whoever was in the box came out to attack what looked like the juvie on the platform. Who could that be but S2? Why would Pa attack her if he was previously bonding with her? But if S2 were alive, why was he bowing with the new falcon? So confusing. Not in a million years would I expect that Pa would still be around (and I love Pa) and not young, powerful, beautiful S2. Maybe she is injured somehow and was unable to get back to the nest for a while and in the meantime, the young falcon moved in, only to be surprised by S2's presence in the box. I don't know, I just can't accept that something has happened to S2. Thanks for sharing the information. Please keep us informed. What a shame that we can't see the cams. I have missed seeing them, however I do look at those other cams sometimes and catch somebody on that light thing grooming. Just assumed it was Pa.

Ljames, I don't know if you watched the Montreal cam much this past year, but it was interesting to learn that two falcons bowing to each other isn't necessarily bonding. Roger & Spirit both bowed to Polly (their daughter from last year) & she to them. It seemed to be a greeting. I sure hope S2 is OK...

Yes, I did see them bowing with Polly. And I believe that I saw some bowing going on with a strange falcon in SJ this year, well it's all running together now, but it was somewhere I know. But bowing, not bonding, so more like a courtesy kind of thing. I hope this is just a juvie passing through, and S2 is ok.

Well someone is there and has been for about an hour now it was in the box
for a few minutes and then out on the ramp and then over to the corner

I would not worry tool much yet. I t could jsut be a juvenile passing through.

I will remain on the positive for S2. she is strong and could jsut have been out hunting . at the end of a season they can wander a bit .

Okay, latest news. (I haven't had the computer on all day, so I'm a little late . . . :wink:

).
Gerrit(E) went to the tower early this morning. He saw Pa and the German juvenile. Kittenface's screen shot shows her on the corner of the roof/ledge.
At 08.22 Gerrit saw S2 on the platform! ! ! Positive ID of the band. After that time the juvenile has not been seen again.

So the first pictures are of the German juvenile/sub-adult and then a few of S2. The difference is very clear, even without seeing her band.
So it looks like she was just passing by and no threat to the Queen of the tower.
Because of the not-so-good weather lately ánd the fact that the kids have all gone since late July, early August, not many people went there these past two weeks. And at this time of year it is not uncommon to be there for a few hours and see no falcons at all.

For now all is well in the kingdom of her Majesty and her valiant hero Pa :girlluv:
