This morning the fourth juvie of this season fledged at 7.53 a.m. local time! (Thanks for the snapshot, Annette B. , of its lift-off!) :loveshow:
But at 9.55 a.m. a juvie was already back to "Hotel Mum" waiting for a second breakfast!
This is a new experience we have here in the 10th year of this nesting- box: The juvies keep returning to "Home, sweet home", we did not see this before...

How fun to see they come back! Congratulations on a successful fledge! Such a beautiful location for falcons to practice their skills.

The fourth and last juvie left the nesting-box at June, 4th, at 7.53 a.m. and landed it the the roof of the church 30 m below the nesting-box. There it rested looking up to his old home for long time : How do I get back home?

Later in the afternoon another of the fledglings landed on the roof, too, in front of webcam 3 to visit his sister?

After some minutes this falcon - earlier fledged than his sister - walked around the small "bell-tower" on the roof to get near to his sister...

After a long walk on the cable on top of the roof both falcons met: Everything o.k. with you? And what are we doing now?

New photos by courtesy of Gregor Schuhmacher, Heidelberg!
Yesterday evening in historic part of Heidelberg the first of our traditional fireworks "Schloss-Beleuchtung" started at 22.15: All city-lights are put off, the ruin of castle and "Old Bridge" is lighted with dark red illuminations and a huge 20-minutes-fireworks-event over River Neckar is a pleasure for Heidelbergians and ten-thousands of visitors. This event remembers the demolishing & burning of Heidelberg especially the famous castle of Heidelberg by the French in 1689! Four times annually - june to august-this event attracts a lot of people to the city watching from the river banks or boats and having afterwards some nice hours in the hundreds of inns, bistros and restaurants in the historic part of Heidelberg.
I think the falcons will disappear very fast and very far away when the first fire-work goes off in front of the church & nesting-box, - but next day they are back again!
Hans-Martin

Too bad. I guess the fireworks scared them away...

No, every year we are happy to see the family after the traditional four fire-works in summer again at the usual perching places. People tell me, that - especially in the early morning hours around 5 a.m. - the young falcons are heard crying and begging. On the balcony surrounding the church`s steeple we find the rests of the meals, not a beautiful sight for the many visitors...
And we often find pigeons on the ground which the young falcons loose when they try to grip them from their parents or siblings!

Hans-Martin, thanks from me, too, for all your beautiful photographs and accompanying dialogue. Gorgeous birds, gorgeous scenery! It is nice to know all have successfully fledged.
