They're all out of the box now, so hopefully they'll pull the cam back soon!

I haven't seen the Huntly chicks for a couple of days, or an adult either! Just checked the blog & there's no updated info there. I'm hoping they just wandered off into the grass & we just can't see them!

Today I see an adult on cam bending over in the grass like he/she is feeding, so I think the chicks decided to get in the grass for a more comfortable bed & for shade.

Thanks for the Huntly picture, Alison! I haven't seen these guys in a while cause they've been hiding by the cam!

The three chicks have now been banded.

Huntly falcon chicks leave the nest for the first time
New arrivals inspected, weighed and ringed, before being returned 100ft up a cliff

THREE fluffy peregrine falcon chicks were carefully removed from their nest on a 100ft cliff face for the first time last night.

Staff at the Huntly Peregrine Wild Watch Centre watched as Forestry Commission Scotland employee Alastair Young abseiled down the disused quarry to collect the chicks to be inspected, weighed and ringed, before returning them to their nest.

The event has become an annual highlight at the centre, which provides a peephole on the life of peregrines that regularly nest in the quarry through cameras, displays and guidance from staff.

Over the past seven years visitors have been able to see three baby birds hatched and raised each season, apart from in 2005 when there were only two chicks reared.

Gibby Kirwan, a warden at the Bin Forest centre, which is just a few miles north of Huntly off the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road, said it was the third time the pair of falcons had reared chicks at the site.
