Genoa

There are two female chicks and one male this year. The parents are now listed as Jezebel and Mark. Lucas was definitely the male at this nest earlier this year. There are two tiercels named Mark in the database; one banded black/green 23/M from Castle Rock, Trempealeau county, Wisconsin, born 2002; the other is still a juvie, born in 2010 at Columbia Generating Station, Wisconsin. The Castle Rock tiercel was last listed as the male at the Alma nest, not Genoa.

A clear pic! I think they must have cleaned the camera lens during banding.

The big chick at the back is self-feeding:

An update from the site:

The three Peregrine falcon chicks that hatched at our G-3 nesting box this year were banded on Friday, May 27, on-site. Bob Anderson from the Raptor Resource Project and his assistants joined Dairyland’s John Thiel, Brad Foss, Mike Peters and Mike Rask to apply U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) bands to the two females and one male.

The chicks were named Six Cents (in memory of Penny Schieber), MISO and Edwiki. They are the product of the same Peregrine falcon pair that nested at G-3 last year, Lucas and Jezebel.

Unfortunately, as of June 1, one of the falcon chicks (likely Edwiki) was found to be deceased.

Banding of the chicks at the Alma area nesting site is planned for June 7. Again this year, the falcon pair in Alma has chosen to relocate to a natural nesting site on a bluff near our Alma Generating Station.

Another very sudden and sad loss; like Topeka, just shortly after banding. I wonder what happened here. Poor little Edwiki, who did not have the chance to fledge and live his life.

Yes, it is tragic news . . . that is all the information I have. There was nothing posted on Raptor Resource; I have also posted the information there.

Here is the link:

Horizon Milling

The long-time resident female at this nest, Lolo, has apparently been replaced by a new female. Three female chicks and one male were banded at Horizon.

From Raptor Resource:

Lolo has been replaced at Horizon Milling. Her replacement is *Y/*P (Charlette), a 2008 Wells Fargo Hatch. Charlette is not as aggressive as Lolo - I think the male is actually more aggressive here. He didn't strike us, but he came closer than the female.

Lolo, born in 2002 at the High Bridge nest, is a daughter of Sophia, who was born in 1997 at the Monticello Plant. Sophia's mother was another famous falcon, Camilla, born in 1994 at the Colonnade nest.

Lolo's father was Smoke, born in 1988, a son of the iconic Mae of the King Plant.
