Its about time! I'm going down to see the purple martin roost Thursday (almost 30,000). There are continuing reports from the site that the falcons are around every night, making the purple martins fly in unusual formations to avoid them. The roost is only a few blocks from the nestbox. It should be fun to watch all the action

All's fine here Bonnie. My house is 38 miles away and it was pretty significant. Friends on facebook felt it all the way to Toronto, including one at your airport. We were just sending our love your way :)

Thanks, the people of NYC felt the love. I didn't. I was in the car and then shopping 40 miles north.

Glad you are safe. Earthquakes are better than hurricanes. Now just don't let Irene get to you.

I came here to see if there were any updates on the female who had injured her eye and shoulder, the one that escaped from the car in March and was found again. The last update I have is May 5th. She was doing o.k had been moved outside and was beginning to stand more often.

Any further news from anyone? I looked at WCV but couldn't find anything.

I am so sorry about Ginger. Looking at the screenshots....

Edit: I went on FaceBook and asked one of the Rochester Watchers if she had heard any news. She said she had. The female is doing well and is in flight training.

Thanks for getting that info, Mick....so nice to know that she is now in "Flight Training"!!! Now, when it comes time for release (and I do hope that happens), she'd better stay away from Harriet!!!

The Wildlife Center just posted an update last week on her. Mick, you must have had your ESP going.....

In early August, the Peregrine Falcon was moved into a larger outdoor enclosure. This time around, the falcon began utilizing the space and was observed perching in a variety of places around the enclosure.

All summer, the Wildlife Center staff have been in touch with the falconers who were working with the Peregrine earlier this year. Once the veterinary staff were comfortable with her recovery, the plan was to transfer the bird to Eva and Andrew again to resume flight training and conditioning. With continued good reports in August, Wildlife Center staff decided the time had come to transfer the falcon.

On September 7, Dr. Dave transported the falcon to Eva and Andrew. We’ll look forward to receiving reports on the Peregrine Falcon’s progress.

Thank you so much Barb. This peregrine is one tough cookie.

Do you have a link that is updating. All my links are good but the haven't been updated in months. I've looked on the site and I'm sure I've just overlooked it... it's not on their news page.

Thanks Barb.

Mick,

Here is the page with all of their updates. The Richmond falcon is down the page, but no updates since 9/7.

The question of how long falcons live was raised recently in relation to Freedom in Fort Wayne. I remember that back in 2003 a 17-year-old falcon was found injured in Virginia and sent to rehab. I never did find out who she was. She was apparently Virginia's oldest falcon at that time.

I just found information that she would not have been able to return to the wild, and was euthanized a month later.

Do any of the experts on Virginia peregrines have more information on her?
