Update just posted on Yahoo group:

That is Shadow - he finally left the tree so maybe now Mom or Dad can bring him breakfast. The 2 Brewers aren't bothering him much. He is just down from HQ so they are having a good view.

If you can HQ would love to have more watchers show up to keep an eye on things since bipeds are in short supply today.

Hermes is still on BofA and Ahote on the east side of CH.

Breakfast?

Wait a minute, Shadow already has prey, big white looking bird that he is trying to get a grip on and eat there on the edge. Maybe it was dropped off when the two facons flew by, I don't know, but I didn't see it before. He is now off the edge and on the roof of the bldg. eating.

EC and Clara sitting on the ledge, probably can see the juvies. Shadow is still eating down there.

Yes. Apparently one of the adults dropped off breakfast to Shadow.

And also, an adult shooed off the smaller birds. They OBVIOUSLY don't like Shadow being there. Or maybe they are upset with him for spending the night in their tree?

Update from Yahoo group:

Those Brewer's blackbirds were pretty persistent but Shadow would have none of it after awhile and took a stand to chase one off. A parent eventually drove them off too but the best part was the prey delivery of breakfast! Nice capture cam person! Looked like a large sized prey since he ate his fill and looks like plenty left over. What a special treat to see both Clara & EC on the nestbox ledge together watching Shadow.

I wish I was at HQ to see Shadow so close by. Last report by Boots verified that Ahote' is still on the east side of City Hall and that Hermes is flying wonderfully with multiple flights - usually ended back on the BofA building. I guess he really like being a banker!

Saw what could only have been a parent zoom by and this little one (Shadow, maybe) became so excited and kinda spun around in place a few times.

6:17PM update from Yahoo Group:

o Hermes has been on the move, flying from the east side of City Hall a few times, and last seen peeking over the south edge of the CH roof, just below the satellite dish.

o Shadow still on the 12th floor window ledge, west side of CH.

o Ahote' still on his perch on the east side of CH.

Here is a late update from last night. Just a general overview of the day/watch:

Ahote was content to spend today on the east side of City Hall.

Shadow made a few short flights, with the last one being the best but he still needs works on his landings.

Hermes is doing fantastic. He is a strong flyer, staying airborne for quite a while perusing the downtown area, landing on various tall buildings. He even made an attempt at a mid-air food transfer this afternoon. Clara was carrying a meal toward City Hall and Hermes flew up from underneath her but there wasn't a transfer. He also did a short bit of tandem flying with Clara above City Hall. It also looks like he may have found a favorite building away from City Hall for the time being.

None of them have successfully landed directly and comfortably in the nest area yet, though there have been several attempts. There has been a few landings on the roof above though.

We often hear them hunger wailing as a parent does a fly-by. You probably see this on the cam.

Craig

Here is a link to more pictures by Eric. Love his pictures. Also including his perspective on the day:

Arrived a bit late due to work and stopped first on the garage where I got to enjoy Shadow flying off City Hall and landing(?) again.

Then headed over to 7th street to keep an eye on Ahote.

While on 7th street we got to watch Ahote move back & forth on the ledge he had occupied since Tuesday night. Clara EC visited him more than once along with Hermes.

Clara brought him a pigeon which he got to enjoy for about 3 minutes before Hermes showed up to share, then steal. After Hermes took the prey he dropped it by the stairwell where it fell to the ground.

Hermes spent about 3-4 minutes cruising over the area between 7th & 9th streets at one point.

Shadow tried to land on the East side of City Hall at one point before giving up and headed back to the south side.

Clara & EC made several rather spectacular hunts over the pantry area, it is almost frighting to see her coming almost right at you before she pulls up to skim over the buildings.

When I left Ahote was still on the same ledge & Shadow was up near the Mayor's office. I don't recall where Hermes wound up.

Newest pictures at the end.

Early Friday morning report from Yahoo group:

At first light Shadow was still on the louvers in his night spot until around 5:40am. Clara was gone from her sentry post earlier as well. Wasn't much for the cam person to find for awhile but did find a juvie on the roof area near the parapet and on the parapet picking at some prey. I believe this was Shadow. Boots reported that Ahote' left his lower louvers spot around 6:15am, Hermes doing his banker duties on the BofA. Occasional flying of a bird/s over the roof of CH but couldn't tell if it was an adult or a juvie. I thought that I saw one with prey but Boots reported that some balloons got loose (3 bundles) but there were also 3 birds in the air at the same time. Explains the strange stuff on cam!

EC showed up at the nest ledge then proceeded to go into the nest box and look around a bit from end to end even settling into the gravel a time or two for a second before returning to the ledge and looking out over towards the campus, etc. If EC was thinking that the kids grew up too fast this year I totally agree with him.

Boots also reports that Clara was on her roof antennae position and a juvie flew and knocked her off of it! We used to see this action on the nest box ledge so this year has brought us some surprises.

Thanks mwplay for the reports. Yes, I love Eric's pictures and always check his pictures even when they are not of falcons.

Sounds as though they could all come back to the ledge if they wanted to. I know when I first started watching someone said they don't come back to the ledge once they fledge, then I saw them on the ledge every year after that. :suncon:

I can't tell where this one is.

I am so pleased they are doing well.
