It was too small to be RG. Reenie, I know what you mean about the band clasp but it just looked like it was sticking out more than that to me.

Nothing we can do about it if it is an intruder anyway...

Boy, I am running WAY behind with checking in here. I volunteer to spend a day looking through that little peep hole up there at the nest box. All I need is permission!

Oh no, I really hope it wasn't an intruder (or if it was an intruder, I hope it's on its way further south for migration).

Speaking of migration, I finally made it to the Hawk Watch at the Ashland Nature Center this morning. We saw Red-tailed Hawks, Sharp-shinned Hawks, and a flock of Cedar Waxwings in addition to the usual Turkey Vultures and Black Vultures. But the highlight of the morning was a beautiful Bald Eagle that spent about an hour perched in one tree and then flew to another tree close by where it sat on a branch for quite some time. There was also a sighting of a Peregrine Falcon, but I wasn't quick enough to see it through my binoculars.

Sounds like you had a wonderful morning, Catbird! Glad you got to see all those beauties, except for the peregrine of course.

It figures that the one time I'm not at the hawk watch on a Saturday is when you decide to visit! Sorry I missed you!

I had a scare today. Someone called saying they'd found one of the falcons who had flown into the building. Turns out it was a young Sharp-shinned Hawk. I feel bad for the hawk but am relieved it wasn't one of the falcons! I wonder if he was being chased by one of them when he hit the building.

That would be quite a scare to be told that it was RG or CJ who was dead. If one of them was around when the hawk was in their territory, I'm sure it was being chased.

WOW, THAT WOULD BE A SCARE! I BET YOUR HEART SANK! SO SO SO GLAD IT WASN'T RG OR CJ! NOT GLAD ABOUT THE SHARPIE. I'M SURE RG AND CJ HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT.

One is on the box ledge now and the other is four ledges to the right.

At 1:30 pm a flock of pigeons shot north up Market Street past our building toward the Brandywine River. Red Girl came into view, following the pigeons in a shallow dive, catching up fast. They went out of sight but it looked like she was going to get one.

Thanks, Greg! They must have been out-of-town pigeons to not know that you need to stay away from the Brandywine Building! :hall6:

Thanks for the great reporting from Greg and Catbird. And Kim that was quite a scare that took the stuffings out of you , I bet! It would have anyone of us!! Sorry for the Hawk, but you have to respect the Falcon territory. Noticed the second circle isn't as defined in the box as it was.

Of course as soon as I log off, there is someone in the box. Could not tell which one due to the poor light this morning. Gone now! Was looking at that new spot!

Haven't checked in here lately. Yes Kim, I'm sure your heart did flip flops upon hearing of a dead bird in Wilmington. I too feel bad for the Sharpie, and would suspect CJ and Red Girl may have something to do with that. There's a twitter on the DEP web site in Harrisburg about the falcons "escorting" a Cooper's out of the no fly zone downtown. Red Girl's mom is known to be responsible for the demise of several Red-tails that made the mistake of getting in her airspace.

Great catch, Kim! It's always wonderful to see both falcons in the box together.

CJ just made a really quick visit to the box, but he was gone in a flash. All I managed to get was one picture.

It looks like CJ is on the box ledge and Red Girl is two ledges to the left.

I haven't seen any prey remains lately. Maybe they're catching ducks somewhere else and eating them there.
