According to the King Operator, one of the juvies was found injured on one of the coal storage piles a few days ago, and has been taken to The Raptor Center.

Couldn't find any more information; according to The Raptor Center site, they are caring for two peregrines as of June 27.

A juvie on the roof of the nest today:

Thanks Alison! I don't think I've ever seen a close up like that at Black Dog.

The King Operator has just posted an update on RRP on the King Plant, Black Dog and Sherco juvies:

Falcons In Recovery

Three young peregrine falcons that fledged this spring from nest boxes at the company's Black Dog, Sherco and Allen S. King plants in Minnesota are recovering at the Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota after getting into predicaments at the sites.

At Black Dog, Environmental Analyst John Chelstrom reported that a young falcon flew into the plant a few days ago and couldn't find a way out, even though doors and windows were open. The bird apparently lacked food and water. Black Dog employees were able to coax the bird out on the east end of plant, but the bird couldn't work up enough energy to fly much and sat on a dumpster and the wall.

So Chelstrom summoned the help of fellow environmental analyst and company bird expert Dan Orr to catch the bird, sitting on the main coal pile in the pouring rain, to bring it to the Raptor Center for treatment.

''The falcon wouldn't have made it much longer with the heat coming,'' Chelstrom said.

Earlier this summer at Sherco, a young falcon entered a scrubber module at the plant. Orr caught it and returned it to a catwalk on the stack. A few days later the falcon was found standing on the bottom ash lines.

''When I flushed it from there, I was able to determine that it had a wing injury,'' Orr said. ''I caught it and took it to the Raptor Center.''

And at King, the plant's coal yard staff saw a young falcon being pestered by a crow on the north coal pile. Upon closer observation, the peregrine appeared to be injured so King employees captured the bird and transported it to the Raptor Center for treatment and rehabilitation.

''Hopefully all three falcons should be recovered enough to release soon,'' Orr said.
