George, sorry you did not see any of Yellow Boy yesterday--you'd better stay indoors today and try to gain back those pounds! I do not know the temp yesterday or today, just know it was hot, hot, hot! :sunno:

Yes, I'd love another family portrait, too. But truly, it did my heart such good to know that LO came back once more and that he is well, and to have the cam on long enough to see that and to know NG and Lil Dad are together and bonding, well, I am feeling pretty good.

Reenie hope you get your computer up and running again . Really gives you a lost feeling.

This heat is scary. Hate to think of the storms that follow.

George, the official temp here yesterday was 101, which tied the record set in 1991. Unfortunately, the forecast for today is more of the same.

Sorry you didn't get to see YB or any of his family, but you never know where these falcons are going to be at any given time. You "pay your money and take your chances". Glad you survived your day outdoors in this terrible heat.

yes its very dangerous and i have yet to hear about anyone dying from the heat yet in philly. For those non natives, philly is city of neighborhoods consisting in many sections the brick row home wtih the black tar roofs. In the more dangerous areas the elderly and those living in fear keep their windows closed and without ac they become a virtual brick oven. Which is not good and those unaware who may have fans turn them on and fail to open a window thus making their home like a convection oven, Alas after a heat wave like weve been having there are several heat related deaths which sort of ticks me off when its in a bad neighborhood because they were too scared of the punks to open their window. They dont deserve to roast to death thanks to a few thugs in their block.

So everyone , stay hydrated and keep as cool as you can!!!

sorry for , pardon the puns, my venting but it really makes me hot when i hear of these sort of sad and tragic deaths of the elderly or the disabled

That is very sad & unfortunate, George, & I believe churches & other organizations in some cities try to help by getting to these people & taking them to shelters at churches, etc. Unfortunately, many people "fall through the cracks". :cryinggirl:

I do not envy you your heat and humidity. My car thermometer said it was 108 here when I was on the way home from downtown last evening. Our local Salvation Army has their Lodge open all day if the temp goes over 100, and that has been all summer this year. If it really gets bad the City also opens a facility for those needing to keep cool. Same thing happens but in reverse for winter warming. San Angelo is a very caring community. If anybody lives in fear I haven't heard about it. We do have "barrio" areas, however. I have to go out for groceries, doctor, and a few meetings, but otherwise I'm content to stay indoors with my cat. Everything is burning up and we can only water outside one day a week, not in the daytime. The City says they have less than a 2-year supply of water. George, when it gets that hot and you're out in it, you need to drink water constantly or suffer the consequences. Here's to a recovery from the dehydration!!

yes the same thing for the cold , the city of philadelphia opens public buildings and shelters for those in need of heat or cool as well as the agency on aging who distribute fans to the elderly who are often on fixed incomes and cant affford the juice to power an air conditioner.

I am not familiar with a bario per se but my observation of the local latino comunities here are that they are rather family oriented and look after each other unlike most of the folks in the suburbs. But like any community it seems there are problems. Ive been checking on my neighbors who are great folks but she is legally blind and her husband, a great guy, has severe diabetes and cardiac problems and is post stroke. Since they cant get out of the home that often without help i feel obligated to check and ask if they need anything. I suggest anyone who knows folks in similar situations to check on them too

:bx:

oh i know about staying hydrated. we were drinking water like fishes. Here today we expect a temp of 102 but could hit the record temp of all time of 106. So this am, i trekked to the local store and got a few bottles of gatorade just to replenish the elctrolytes i will be sweating and weeing away today

I just got an email saying part of Commonwealth Avenue is roped off due to glass on it from a window above being broken by a bird strike. Is our falcon family okay? I hope it was not one of them.

Oh gee, Finchy. I just watched the noon news and they didn't say anything about Commonwealth Avenue. Maybe there's something on Channel 27's web site.

The email was sent by our human resources dept.--they sometimes let us know of traffic problems. But that was the least of my concerns when I read it.

Let's just be glad we still have the camera and we'll just keep watching, and let each other know if we hear anything.

Yeah, not worried about the traffic, either. Looked through Channel 27's and 8's web sites, and also PennLive, and didn't see anything at all about this. I won't be at the computer all afternoon, but of course will be checking back. I know there are still some sort of computer problems at the Carson Building today.

Good news! I have just been told by my "supersleuth" that they really have no idea what broke that window! What great news! That's what I get for relying on an email bulletin--but they had to go with what they were told I guess.

Anyhow, presumably all is well. Sorry to have scared anyone.

Pretty sure it was NG on the cam earlier this afternoon. Right around the time I read Finchy's first post. And according to The Weather Channel, it's 102 degrees outside, and that's air temperature.

when i saw the post regarding the bird into window the first thing i did was check the live camera and was relieved to see one of our dedicated parents on the cam perch which is in the shade.

just out of curiosity do they have ornamental fountains there where some birds decide to cool off? I know the hawks in philly freqent the fountains along the ben franklin parkway here in philly and being that its so hot today id hope that ng, lil dad and lo would be patronizing those if they exist
