It is difficult for me to get over to the JRB. However, I will have
a friend of mine who works over in that part of town take a look around
the bridge tomorrow and Friday. There is no place to stop on the JRB but we'll take a look
a few times. Is there no one at the bridge who can help?

While I haven't posted about this nest, I've been lurking and worrying too.

I wonder about these nests on bridges but guess that at some, land is close enough for the fledglings to reach on their first flight?

Anyway, here is a link to an interesting article and video about a nest in NYC.

That was a great video, Mary...I was really impressed with how gentle he was with them....Thanks so much for posting that. It was really well done!!!

I do hope our kids are ok...I suppose we'll never know....Like we've all been saying, its great to see Elizabeth and JJ, but I am not encouraged by what we're seeing in the box...

I just talked to Libby briefly. Nobody has been to the site to see if the fledged falcons are around, but she agrees that the parents being in the box is not a good sign.

Thanks for checking with Libby, Barb..I hate to actually type this, but I don't think the kids made it. I felt that way the first time I saw Elizabeth in the box so soon after the little girl fledged...I'll be more than happy to "eat my words" and I certainly hope they prove us wrong... :cryinggirl:

Elizabeth was just in the box...didn't get a pic, though..

Just a little encouragement: when kids fledged at Harrisburg, you would often see Mom & Lil Dad in the scrape bonding--sometimes the kids were back on the ledge & sometimes they were elsewhere. Same thing this year with NG. So they could have been out working with the kids & tuckered the kids out, so while the kids were resting, they were bonding. I certainly hope that's the case anyway...

Thanks for the words of encouragement, catwoman...and I certainly hope you are right...I just don't remember bonding and scraping for ANY pair starting this soon after a fledge...

Although I have a bad feeling about this, I am not giving up hope yet that these two beautiful juvies may be okay.

A couple of years ago at the King Plant, one of the chicks fledged a little too early. Her two siblings fledged a few days later. For nine days, there was no sign of the first to fledge. Then, I was watching the cam, and there she was; all three juvies were back at the nest. Nine days is a long time for a fledgling to be gone and then reappear.

So perhaps this can happen again . . .

How great for all who worried about this fledgling, as well as the fledgling herself! :clapegg:

In 2008, when Harrisburg Blue Girl disappeared, SusanE told a similar story about one of their fledglings in Indy. He had been missing for long enough that hope for him was pretty much gone, & then he came flying back into the territory, safe & sound!

Lil Dad & NG were actually in the scrape bonding before LO even fledged. It seems like Mom & Lil Dad did as well (of course they didn't get a chance to bond for long before the kids started screaming that they wanted to be fed).

Thanks for all the encouraging comments. I hope you are right, and the fledges are just not around the box.

I would think that they wouldn't get back to the nestbox right away. If they have been able to get to land, they might not even make it back to the nestbox.

I too, will not give up hope.
Just the fact that the cam is sometimes directed to roof , gives me hope that they may be up there. that is where I saw the young miss looking before she disappeared.

In Manitoba, they had a female go missing after fledge, she never returned to ledge and never saw her again. Guess where she turned up. Yup, Miss Radisson in Edmonton

Do they always return to nest box here.

Ours in Edmonotn , hang around the ledge or the roof of clinical science, after they f ledge. Very rarely do they return to box.

So let us keep our lights in the window for these guys.

Well, I hope everyone doesn't misunderstand me....I don't think any of us have given up hope!!! With this freaky season, anything is possible...I guess I'm just trying to keep reality in the back of my mind...so, from now on, I'll just be quiet..

Do not be quiet SGB. :girlluv: :girlluv: :girlluv:

I did not misunderstand what you were saying. You are saying you hope they are O.K. but it does not look good.

I go around with my head in the sand half the time so I sometimes jsut see things throuhg rose colored glasses

You are right about the freaky season. I am already dreading ours.

I get more nervous every year.

This is very puzzling to me. I just watched someone in box and will post slides

I would hope that if you put a box on a bridge, you would have someone checking to see if youngsters made it.
I know everyone is busy but .....

I guess I just worry that with all that has happened at other nests this year, complacency is not a good thing.

I must be naive
