George, I think Yellow Boy's offspring have all been banded.

This is almost like a Soap Opera. I do hope thru it all that Lil Dad is safe.

There is nothing funny about what has happened. Most of us are a wreck not knowing if Lil Dad is ok or not. So I can speak for myself this is not a laughing matter!

I KNOW IT IS UPSETTING ABOUT LIL DAD, BUT FOR NOW, WE NEED TO LIGHTEN UP A BIT AND JUST WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. LIL DAD COULD BE ON VACATION, ONLY TIME WILL TELL. :nailbite: I KNOW IT'S NOT EASY SEEING THIS NB MALE, I THOUGHT I'D HAVE A HEART ATTACK MYSELF WHEN I SAW HIM UP THERE WITH NG.

THERE WASN'T ONE BLACK BIRD ON THE BLDG THIS MORNING! NG MUST HAVE TAUGHT THEM A LESSON YESTERDAY :bsanta: THEY ARE IN THE TREES ACROSS THE STREET AND ONLY A COUPLE OF CROWS, SO NOT NEAR AS LOUD THIS MORNING. HOPEFULLY SOON THEY WILL ALL FIND A NEW PLACE TO GO!

CAN'T SWEAR TO IT, BUT I THINK BOTH FALCONS SHOWED UP THIS MORNING BECAUSE IT SOUNDED LIKE TWO AND I DEFINATELY HEARD NG. IT'S TOO DARK TO SEE WHO'S ON THE STICK, BUT I THINK IT WAS NB AND NG WAS IN THE SCRAPE. STILL CAN'T GET OVER HOW THERE WASN'T ONE BIRD ON THIS BLDG THIS MORNING :bsanta:

Wow Reenie! I don't know whether to say good news or bad news. Just that at least we see them keeping close to the ledge, so we can see what is going on. Have a good day all. :newsnow2:

Reenie I can laugh about some things. It is insensitive of George to make light of the present situation after seeing how we were affected when we lost Mom last year. This is no laughing matter, and he has a warped sense of humor. To me each day we see N.B. on the nest it solidifies his relationship with N.G. and puts Lil Dad further down the ladder so to speak. It is extremely difficult to bear at this time.

We all handle stressful situations differently. I usually assume the worse that could possibly happen and become depressed, (I'm working on that) some pretend nothing is wrong and there will always be a happy ending, some try to cheer things up. We have to cope the best we know how. Everybody loves these falcons, that much I know.

my original comment was in reply to a reference to recent developments being a soap opera. unlike the tv ones this is real life and in many ways each of our lives too can be like a soap opera. personally, i prefer real drama illustrating the struggles to survive both with we humans and our avaian friends. In contrast to the tv ones where the plot twists and such seem to be repetitive with our falcons , its the unexpected twists which make them so much fun and educational to view. thats the fascination with nature, one never knows what will happen next for good or for bad

Here we are again getting all twisted with human emotions. I too fight the urge to look at the bad side, but what kind of control do we have over any of it? We all love these birds or we wouldn't be here. Mother nature and pain go hand in hand. But so does the wonderful joy of recreation. We have it all at our fingertips.

I see that Lil Dad was fledged in 2003, so if he hasn't had an accident or come down with something he should still be a vigorous bird.

Do I remember correctly that he often disappears for part of the winter season (maybe because of northern, migratory bloodlines)? If so, then there could be a spectacular fight when he returns, because both males will think that they own the place. NG will watch the action with interest, just as Red Girl watched CJ run off an intruding male earlier this year in Wilmington.

Red Girl (long may she prosper) probably got her place in Wilmington by defeating the resident female (who happened to be the mother of the current male, CJ --long may he prosper with Red Girl). Falcons are like us in some ways. It's easy to see them as individuals and root for the ones that you know, but George is right: in the end falcons play by their own rules, and none of them is immortal. You ought to like the ones that you have now. End of sermon.

Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and have a happy and prosperous New Year.
