Well, I just have to say my heart just skipped a beat. Got the update email from DEP, as I'm sure many of you have....

Here it is:

December 28, 2011~News from the Nest Ledge

A new male peregrine has been visiting the nest ledge since the first week in November. This bird is not banded and appears to be somewhat larger and younger than the resident male. The resident male peregrine was last seen in conflict with the new male on November 30th. The new male has since made food offerings to the female and they appear to be pair-bonding. It is likely that the new male was successful in his challenge for the nest site and resident female. The resident male may have been driven away or possibly killed. Any information falcon cam viewers provide regarding falcon sightings and interactions would be of great value in determining what we can expect for the 2012 nesting season.

I sure do hope they are totally and completely wrong in their conclusions...this information CAN'T be right!!!

It would be nice if they put the live streaming back on so we could actually do that.

I do not think that report is right. I think they are just surmising by some conflicting reports. I got the witre also.

No one knew who the new falcon was chasing. And if I remember , the report was not a conflict but a chase, which it could have been a falcon passing through that was chased. If little dad had been there , I am sure Jane etc, would have seen a real conflict, as he has a vested interested.

Of course I am not there, but time will tell. Just going by what I have seen over the years.
I guess the most important thing is, that the falcons keep reproducing.

I have not been on line as I had to take a break form all that was happening, but do check from time to time.
Do not know what will happen at my sites this year.

It is natural for NG to take up with the male that is there presently. she does not know if Little dad is returning.

STay positive

Yes, looking at the posture, probably NB. They are creatures of such beauty and power... funny how each is so different in its ways.

Here is an early New Year's wish to all my Bird Cam friends far and near: may 2012 bring peace and joy, comfort, good health and prosperity to you and to those you love.

Cool picture, Reenie!!!

I just don't think their report is correct either...I looked back through all the posts here...Reenie saw Lil' Dad and NG chase a hawk on November 30, then on December 9th, DEP tweeted that NB was on the ledge..(first sighting?)...Then on December 11th, Jane and Sue reported seeing a smaller falcon (Lil' Dad?) being chased by a larger falcon (NB?).

Just thinking out loud here...could the November 30 conflict that DEP is reporting really be part of the interactions between a falcon and the hawk? I know that's grasping at straws as I can even identify a hawk in the air, but we don't know who witnessed this "conflict". If it was just a glimpse, then it could appear that there was conflict between 2 falcons..

I agree with you birdmusic, it sure would be nice to have the streaming back!!!!

I am gonna just have to remain positive here. A lot can happen between now and nesting time...

Sounds to me like the DEP is trying to prepare us for the worst. Meaning Lil Dad will not be returning one way or another. I still have a little hope, but it is waning. I believe they did the same with Mom last year.

On the 5th day of Christmas my true love gave to me 5 Golden Rings, 4 Calling Birds, 3 French Hens, 2 Turtle Doves, and a Partridge in a Rear Tree. :merrychristmas3: :carols:

I, too,l have been interested in the DEP Falcon Wire report. I wish we knew the source of their information. Have they picked up something from the forum then "interpreted" it? We, luckily, know who furnished what information and what their basis was. I will rely on Jane's report of the "chase" or whatever it was. Are we really seeing courtship behavior? Can't very well with no sound and video! I don't think there was any doubt that NG was exhibiting some bowing etc., although I would have liked to hear her at that time. Hang on everybody, we're possibly in for a very interesting and perhaps exciting "ride" this spring.
