These 3 must be enjoying their view. No room up here for the 4th, so he's inside.

I'm on my way to the eastern shore. Tomorrow I'll be helping Libby band 3 nests near Cobb including the old Cobb pair. Photos to come!

My husband and I went with Libby to four nests on the eastern shore yesterday.

Elkins Chimney: Our former Cobb Cuties and only about 2 miles from Cobb. Mom and Dad were noisily defending their nest when we arrived. They did have 2 eggs, but only one juvie there. He/she was on the nest when we got there and started flying and crash landing back on the box. We couldn't catch it to band, but here's a few of the parents:

Elkins Marsh Shack: Also very close to Cobb. We banded 4 chicks here, 1 girl and 3 boys.

Godwin Island Shack: On the other side of Cobb Island, we banded 2 girls and 2 boys.

Look at that sweet baby boy pressed up against the corner

We left the area to check on another box on the Chesapeake Bay side. There have been falcons here for several years, but unproductive probably due to predation. I think it is called Craddock Nest. Beautiful area. Anyway, the adults were aggressively defending the nest. Libby went up to check, and there were 3 beautiful chicks! They were too small to band, so I didn't go up and get pics. Yay! A new successful nesting pair!

...and more great pics!!! Its always wonderful to see nests with no concrete or asphalt messing up the view. Its also interesting that their nests are relatively close together. Any sightings of the barn owls? (or were you in the wrong area...)

Was this the first banding trip for your hubby?

Just gorgeous...thanks Barb!!!

Thanks ladies! This was my husband's first time with falcons, although he helps me handle raptors in rehab! He had a blast! Did not see any barn owls, but we had several conversations over the course of the day about them. We were not close to the one Libby saw, and I forgot to ask her. I will though....
