Newest update.

The egg is out of sight today. Ava may have moved further along the bunker ledge out of the range of my peep hole or it may have rolled to a similar fate to egg number one. As the female Peregrine Falcon usually lays one egg every 48 hours, there should have been a second egg today.

I thought there were already two eggs, one that rolled away and another being incubated. :imbored: What a terribly wasted/squandered opportunity to improve PeFa population in Anglesea.

There were two eggs Susan. I don't know if it was a typo or if the ruined egg is just being denied. I'm sure it was a typo. I'm just being grouchy because this is just lunk-headed.

It is still not too late to put up a nest box here. they could put it up and put the eggs in it. Our biologist did this at 2 sites this year.

Alcoa Anglesea Peregrine Falcon Webcam Updates...

Wednesday October 12, 2011
This egg certainly gets around! Today it is further along the ledge at the very edge of the frame I can photograph.
Of some concern is more often than not, the eggs appear to be unattended and/or uncovered when I drop by.

Tuesday October 11, 2011
The egg is back in view today. Over the last few days, Ava had the egg tucked in the corner behind the
vertical beam hiding it from our vantage point. Havoc visited the ledge today and looked like he might take a turn incubating. But he wasn't there for long before taking flight.

thanks Beth.

It is probably to hard to incubate if they are moving around. Man, I am frustrated with their lack of action.

what a shame they let this get to this point. Maybe the people there just don't know that much about falcons. I remember when the eggs were rolling away at the nest in Maine because of poor design, the folks jumped right on it as soon as they realized and fixed it. Just a little gravel so that they could form a bowl to keep the eggs secure would have done the trick, I mean if they're determined to make it as hard as possible for them to begin with by taking their nestbox away, it's the least they could do. It's heartbreaking to see the poor baby over there in the corner trying to incubate that egg.

They need to get their head's out of their A--'s that's for sure.
All the help they could be receiving from people that have watched for yrs. & yrs. and DO know what they are
talking about could help so much, it is just a shame they wouldn't except the help you all offered. All I can say is SHAME ON THEM

And the saddest thing is that Havoc has lost two of his prime reproductive years and at this rate, poor little Ava may never have chicks. It's a miracle that a falcon even makes it from one year to the next and to miss the opportunity for them to reproduce is a real shame, for all of us.

Elise has been over here and has been with our falocn experts. All she has to do is e-mail them and they would advise her as what to do. I do not know her role anymore.

I cannot believe they are not helping . MOst of the plant operators here, are so glad to have the falcons. they are their family.
I know not everyone loves them but I think here is a serious lack of communication.

I bet you're right, Carly! :tantrum2: As has been stated here before, why don't we hear of these problems at other sites where there are falcon nests? These falcons can't be that much more vicious than others. In fact, Sheila was the one they complained about, & she isn't even there anymore! :cryinggirl:

The second egg has been out of sight since Thursday last week and the ledge noticeably absent of Ava. Oh, that is terrible. Havoc had so many successful clutches at the original site. Wish the powers that be would reconsider....

DITTO this is indeed sad news for these 2 they want to have little ones but nobody will help out
& Havoc is used to a little bit of human help.

After not being able to watch Ava and Havoc last year I totally forgot about them this year. (And I've been pre-occupied anyway).

After reading the posts it almost seems to me that they disturbed them too much trying to get pics, etc. :girlsad3: I've had it with Alcoa .... the Falcons obviously don't want to use the box wherever it's presently located.

Girlymen ... ain't that the truth!!
