Thanks for the report, Bev...

Currently, I see one on top of the box, eating, one on the perch, and one on the net.

Peter said that blue band male is hunkered down on ledge under box and that he cat walked all the way around the roof ledge.

I am turning in for night but i do have pictures to post tomorrow.

Peter and Becky will stay there till dark. Yellow better not go tonight. :sunno: :sunno:

Hi, Mr. Bev, now PETER, here. Bev wanted me to post that Blue has been fed by dad and is still on the lower roof doing some catwalking. She just called me on my cell and advised that Yellow took his first flight. Doesn't know where he flew but he came back, landed on the white structure and then went down to the lower roof and is with Blue. Green is on the mesh and Red was on the wrung of the nest box. We will post further as things progress.

Just received a call from Bev down at the CSB. Mr. Yellow just fledged. He took off from the CSB and flew north. Radisson did not follow, so Bev were pretty sure that his flight was a good one. He circled back, and made a sloppy landing, but at least a safe landing, on the round part of the white structure next to and below the nest box. Then, he moved up to the roof. Shortly thereafter, his sister, Miss Red, joined him on the roof. So, Bev is delighted that the first fledge was successful, and we hope that the girls and Mr. Blue do not get any ideas about doing the same thing, at least not yet, as they are not ready.

Thanks for relaying Bev.'s report, Elaine...

Everyone, please note that Peter (Bev.'s husband) opened a new topic, EDMONTON FLEDGEWATCH.

viewtopic.php?f=36&t=994

Would we like to put specific communication there?

Got a call back from Bev. Mr. Yellow was knocked off his perch when food arrived. He flew or and landed on a bridge structure on top of the hospital, between the CSB and the heart institute. Dad flew over there to keep an eye on him. Mr. Yellow is in a tight situation: there is not enough room for him to go anyplace but up, and he is not strong enough for that. At least the parents can feed him if he stays there, but the worry is that he will try to fly off the bridge, and will not be able to manoeuvre himself out of these close buildings. Meanwhile, Mr. Blue looks like he wants to join his brother. Bev will try to keep us posted, as events unfold. It is going to be a busy day with these rambunctious chicks!

Blue knocked Yellow off the roof. Yellow presently trapped between buildings. Not enough room for him to swoop out. Dad is trying to show him how to get out but so far no luck. Hopefully he can make it without our help. If not we will have to go and get him. Bev is monitoring and biologist is aware and may come down in PM. I will go down to help this PM.

Thanks, Peter! So far so good. Looking forward to your continued reports.

Edit: We were posting at the same time. Sorry about Yellow. Hope he can get out on his own.

Well, things have gone from bad to worse for Mr. Yellow. Bev reports that he flew off the building he was on, could not get any height, and landed inside a sort of hole on another nearby building. Bev says it will be pretty well impossible for him to get out of this area, and she contacted the biologist, who will come down this afternoon to rescue him. Meanwhile, the other chicks are o.k., as you probably can all see: two are on the top of the nestbox, and one inside. So at least for now, the others are safe.

I don't have any solid news from Bev, but I believe that Peter, her husband and fellow poster, went down there at lunch time because they felt they might have to rescue Mr. Yellow, especially as they do not know when the biologist will arrive. It is possible that they are in the process of rescue right now. The spot where Mr. Yellow is located is, I believe, under a walkway between two buildings, and these two buildings are very close together. So, it is possible for people to squeeze into this area, but not for a young falcon to get out. Apparently Dad was trying to show him how to fly out, but Mr. Yellow is too young to know what to do. I await further reports, and will let you know what is happening when I know.

Just heard from Bev. They did not attempt to rescue Yellow from his tight situation, as the biologist, on the telephone, had discouraged this, for fear of an injury. But Dad, in his efforts to show Yellow what to do, kept on flying through the only area where Yellow could gain altitude and get out, and apparently Yellow was watching closely, as when Dad did a recent fly-by, he followed him up and out, then continued to follow Dad over to the apartment building, Windsor Towers, about two blocks southwest from where he had been stuck, and here he wavered, but then landed on the 11th floor balcony of this building, to the cheers of the watch crew beneath him on the nearby parkade. Bev was thrilled. She had yelled encouragement to him the whole time, and Yellow proved to be a brave little bird.

As it happens, a lady who lives in this apartment building saw all the action, and knows Bev and all about the fledge watch, so she called Bev and said that she would notify the people who live in that apartment to not go out on to their balcony, for fear of scaring off Yellow, of course.

Bev is ready for a rest after all this, and there are four of us heading down there shortly for evening duty.
