Bev just called and advised that Green Band just took her maiden flight. She flew over to the College Plaza and then back to the MAZ and is with Red and Blue on that building. Bev said that it was a tough flight to watch, so tough in fact that it made her heart monitor go off twice. This is the last one to fledge. All 4 have now taken flight and I fear that the next few days of monitoring will be very busy as once they go, we run.

6am to 6pm july18,2-11

Today was day 44 for our oldest which meant all the kids were at least 43 days old.

It was a day of may emotions.

When I got up at 5am ad saw the e storm and skies in St. Albert , i got ready as quick as i could and headed out. Had to check the kids.

It was pouring rain and only one in view. then one flew around top of clincial science and I knew it was YB. That is where he stayed during storm. I saw GG on right ledge of lower roof of nest building. and then on careful looking around I found RG on lower roof of Maz(heart building). but no BB. This means RG had taken a second flight. I checked all around the grounds in area. Got a bit wet :playrain: :playrain:

around 9am(3hours later)up pops BB. Radisson brought a food drop for RG on Maz. then she came back with a small bit for BB. BB boy got some bites , when GG popped up from pillar and stole it.

BB had enough of this and poof, he flew over and half way around front of Maz, with yellow guiding him, and then back and up on jut of clinical science. After a few minutes, he decided , the food was on Maz , so back he went and once again YB guided him and he dropped on lower roof of Maz, YB flew back to jut of Clinical science.
We are finding it very interesting that YB is taking on duties. It is as if he has been appointed babysitter. amazing to watch. I learn so much more every season.

Now we only had GG to fly.

BEtween 11am and noon dad came over to YB and off they went. He was giving YB his first soaring lesson. It was amazing to watch and we had an audience behind us watching in awe as Dad guided YB. I took a lot of photos and these I will get posted tomorrow. Just so little time. YB is a natural. I t just fills my heart :loveshow: every time I watch this.

Part 2 in nest reply

Part 2 july18/2011

WE saw both adults usher out ravens and shorty after, Radisson had a catch on College Plaza. She did not even get started defeathering , when in flew YB. He wanted it now. :sunno: :sunno: Radisson flew off , with YB in hot pursuit. Was he ever shocked to see that Radisson left prey at ledge

A short time later YB flew over to College Plaza and ended up on rim above the ledge ,that had prey. He could not figure how to get in. Dad came over and proceeded to defeather and eat some of bird. YB was not happy :suntalk: :suntalk: but I am sure Dad did this to get him to get on ledge. About 30 minutes later YB ended up on ledge and off dad went . YB had a good meal.

Then it was quiet for awhile . We watched as RG and BB beaked each other. So cute. YB flew over to top roof of Maz and then over to nest box roof and spent a few hours there chilling.

at about3pm GG was flap hopping and flap flying on ledge of nest building. And then off she was. Way over to top of college plaza. She was there and just missed her landing and slipped, but she veered off and flew back to lower roof of Maz.( a very good flight for her.) Josephine and I are yelling , up up up . and then a big cheer. :cheerlead: :cheerlead: This was Josephine s first time witnessing a fledge and she was so excited and I was thrilled she got to witness it.

I phoned Peter and told him the sooner the better to come down. I just could see RG was going to take off, and I was tapped for the day.

Just after 4:30pm. she lifted off but could not get the height for ledge of clinical building. So she gently touched it and then swung around and hit jut of Clincial and then veered off and tried to get back up on Maz but there was not enough room for her to get her height., and she gently hit and slid down . Becky and I just took off running , down 5 flights of stairs ,with Peter behind with box.

RG is huge anx just gorgeous.

And as we came out of door , who was staring at us, but RG. She must have flown as she got low, on side of Maz and came to ground across at parkade where we were. now some would have used this for a photos shoot, but I do not believe in this. Our goal is to create as little stress as possible.
Becky stood in front of RG, while I directed people away from her and Peter came up from behind and gently threw table cloth over her. She was walking a bit , a bit but Peter scooped her up , without gloves and put her in box.

WE got right over to place where I had a room booked, where we could keep her and wait for our rehab lady and security. Gord told us what to look for but Patti was very thorough in her exam. After she said RG was good to go , Peter called security and took her up and released her on roof below box.

Radisson went nuts but RG went right up onto ledge.

I got back to parkade and we had another crisis. Radisson had just fed kids on Maz when she was attacked from behind. As she was chasing the intruder away, it took a swipe at YB who just stood still on roof box . there was a few swipes in the air, as Radisson ran it out and perched on College Plaza . She did not see RG go down ,as she was not around. To make matters worse we had not seen DAd in 2.5 hours and all sorts of things were going through our heads , I did not leave till I saw Dad at about 6:30pm

so when I left , RG was on roof ledge of clinical science and YB was on top roof of Maz and GG and BB were on lower roof of Maz. and both adults in sight.
Gord thinks it could be lone female from high level bridge. Her man is with Radisson.

what a day, one of highs , lows , sweating and cheering. and Peter will give you his report tomorrow. It is good(I will keep you in suspense)

Adn now I am going :offtobed: :zzzzz

Welcome Bob! What a great fledge watch crew you have there! Amazing day Bev! I love your play by play. So glad that the kids have waited until they were ready to fly. Those big girls always have a few more problems getting going with all that weight, but thankfully the rescue crew was on the scene. The next few days should be exciting with all four flying now. It sounds like YB is ready to take the lead. I wonder why dad disappeared for so long... Good luck tomorrow and thanks for the great reporting. Get those running shoes on!

:thankyou all for the warm welcomes, Carly, Beth, Skygirlblue, SusanE, ljames and obxbarb. Bev and Peter sure know how to make a workday exciting. Carol and I got to the CSB around 5: pm and immediately went up the the garage roof where we learned of the rescue of Mademoiselle Red and the attack of the jilted female from the High Level Bridge. There was no more drama of that sort after Bev left as we watched most of the falcons most of the time. Mr. Blue stayed on the lower roof of the Maz until he decided it was time to fly over to the roof below the nest box where he tucked in for the night. Miss Green didn't move from the Maz at all and was sitting on the corner of the roof preening when we left at about 9:45. We were, however, treated to spectacular flying by that young fellow, Mr. Yellow. He made several sorties between the Maz and College Plaza including one where he took off from the Maz, flew to college plaza, back to the Maz, and back to college plaza where he knocked Mom off her perch following which she flew to the antenna above the CSB and Yellow came back to the Maz. He didn't even break a sweat. Mademoiselle Red, following her rescue, spent time catwalking at the CSB before she flew over to the Maz. At one point she left the Maz to fly over to College Plaza, but failed to stick her landing and started sliding down the wall. She recovered in flight and returned to the CSB disappearing over the roof. She reappeared on the roof of the nest box and flew over to the Maz to rejoin Blue and Green. Yellow flew to College Plaza where he sat for awhile. Dad showed up at College Plaza on a window ledge a few floors below. At that point in time, we had all six falcons in sight. Yellow came back to the Maz, sat on the high roof and then came to the lower roof to join his three siblings. All four were sitting together at one point. Then Blue left to tuck in for the night. Red and Yellow flew around back of the CSB out of site and did not reappear before we left. Peter put on his track shoes and walked around the CSB a couple of times spotting no one on the ledges and finding no one on the ground. So we can only assume that Yellow and Red were tucked in on the roof for the night. Through it all, Mama had a perfect vantage point on the antenna above the CSB and showed absolutely no sign of being worried. Dad went to bed and we came home at dusk. Peter was going to leave shortly after making a last tour of the area to see what he could see. If he has not reported by the time I finish this novel, he probably did not see anything as the dark was closing in. We're off to bed. have a great evening, y'all (less than an hour left here.)

Edit: I've re-read Bev's post and noted that Peter plans to post tomorrow. I hope I haven't stolen any of that young fella's thunder.

OK Bev. and Bob...you have exhausted me!!! What an exciting day for you all...sounds like there were a few harrowing moments but that everyone is doing well...I'm sorry that RG went to ground, but must have been thrilling to get to see her so up close!! thankful she was not injured...

Gosh, wandering female? I wonder is she has been around all season? I do hope she stays away. The kids don't need any distractions right now..

Interesting to read about Yellow's role today...Big brother, helping out Mom and Dad? Sounds like he is just loving his new found freedom of flight. Let's just hope he doesn't turn into daredevil Yellow...you know how these boys can get..

well, rest up...watchers and parents are gonna need all their energy the next few days!!

Wow, another exciting day. I look forward to reading the reports to hear how the babies are doing. Poor RG having to be rescued, glad you guys were there for her. I know it must be thrilling to watch YB fly. :loveshow:
I sure hate it that that other female is there worrying the heck out of Radisson, especially now.

I am sorry to say we lost Green Girl tonight. When I arrived, all the chicks were accounted for, the two boys on the heart institute, Red Girl on the 9th floor of the Windsor Tower, and Green Girl on top of a 6-story building near by. While Peter and I were watching GG preen herself and shake off the rain, she suddenly took off, flying very low, and went around to the back of the heart institute, where we could not see her. Peter and Dave took off running, while Becky watched the other chicks and I watched for GG from the top of the parkade, then when Dave returned with no sign of GG or Peter, I went to look for her. By this time, Peter had found her, and was on his way back with the bad news. She had hit the window by the Emergency entrance, and broke her neck. A paramedic had picked her up just as Peter arrived. When we got this news, we were all so upset, but we had to focus on the remaining three chicks, who picked this moment to fly all over the place, and we did some more running around to track them down. Eventually we found them all, and by the time I left at dusk, they were safe and sound, Dave had left, and Peter, Becky and Barb were preparing to leave. I hope nothing further happened; we did not need any more distress this evening.

p.s. Becky is taking care of the body until the biologist can come and get her.

Oh my. Green was the least experienced of the bunch and it doesn't look like she got considerable flying experience earlier today. I'm so sorry for you, Elaine, and for Becky, Dave, Barb and Peter who had to witness this and mostly for Bev. She really doesn't need the heartache. Kudos to Becky for taking care of Miss Green. Carol and I will be thinking of you all until we get there tomorrow evening and, hopefully, get to see Yellow, Red and Blue flying comfortably in the area.
