Bev...that is just a gorgeous picture!!! I too hope all "our" adults and babies will be safe during migration...and their return...Its so hard to believe that we have made it through yet one more nesting season...(except for Australia, of course...)

Get some rest...enjoy the grandkids...and have fun setting up your new computer...2012 season will be here before we know it...heck, we're not that far from January and the Eagles....YIKES!!!

I, too, enjoyed seeing Gord's picture of the CS male. He looks really healthy, and I'm sure Gord would not have released him if he didn't think the male was in good enough shape for migration. Thanks for posting it, bev.

I have been watching the pigeons and magpies and ravens cleaning out the box. hopefully they do a good job :pumpbounce:

I think they are ravens, Suzanne. Big, aren't they?

Yes they are big! Big and beautiful! Some people find the crows and jackdaws and magpies annoying but I find them hilarious.

I agree with you, Suzanne. They always make me laugh. Also, they are clever, very alert, and have great memories. If anyone has seen the documentary on television, "A Murder of Crows", which reveals how smart crows are, they will know what I mean.

That sounds interesting, I will have to look for it. We get lots of jackdaws (kauwen in Dutch pronounced "cowen"), magpies (eksters) and the occasional crow (kraai) in our backyard and I love to watch them. There is also a large colony of crows that build their nests nearby and you can hear them on an early spring morning from far away. You don't want to walk or bike under the trees when they are nesting though! You get bombed with crow poop or the crows themselves!

yup, these are our famous ravens. We do not mind them here to clean out box but we do not want them around the box when falcons come back.
what I love about them is how loyal they are to each other and how lovey dovey they are. But once again , they seem to know now , to leave when the falcons come back. Hopefully, they remember, especially if our resident male does not make it back and we have a young one.

they are bigger than crows and have a more guttural call and their beaks are thicker.

Great shots Suzanne. You are catching all our birds that come around when peregrines leave. This is our magpies. some do not like them but they also are a very smart bird.

Thanks, I love the magpies, too, or "eksters" as they are called here Holland. They come to our backyard and can be pesty and loud but I like them.

I love to watch them when they are young and play tag from the rooftops. When they are young and learning to fly, the adults seem to pick our backyard for them to learn from. I guess they know they will be safe. Yes, noisy but amusing.
