Hello Catbird,

First of all - this idea of a calendar is really great - so handy for overview!
Alas - not sure where you got the data, but the 2009 data about the Dutch (Beleef de Lente) Common Kestrel is not correct!
The Kestrel female laid 5 eggs, but the male disappeared after the 4th egg was laid and after waiting several days, the female abandoned the nest.

It had nothing to do with the Stock Doves. On the contrary, prior to the Kestrels, the Stock Doves had laid 2 eggs and were breeding there, when they got chased out and their eggs destroyed by a pair of Jackdaws. Exactly the same as what happened this season.

To be sure, like last year, this year the nest hasn't 100% been claimed yet, as none is breeding there. The Kestrels aren't often seen right now, but it is still possible that they will breed later.

For future reference of the Dutch BDL webcams, check our translations of the BDL logbooks. (I try to keep them up to date as fast as possible, but sometimes we lag a day.)

Regards,
Bosuil
PS - do you have a link for the Israeli Kestrel in Tel Aviv?

Hello again catwoman,

Here also some corrections:

Barn Owls
Mariaheide, NL laid 5 eggs (not 3), #1 on March 15 (not 17);
Tirat Zvi, Israel - at least 5 hatched
Nir David, Israel - at least 4 hatched

NB Israel and Starr Ranch, CA first about to fledge any day or did.

Eagle Owl Beleef de Lente, NL laid at least 3 eggs, 3 hatched, #1 on March 24

Little Owl typo - Beleef (not Beef) the Lente.

Hello Bosuil!

Thanks so much for providing updated information for the BDL kestrels in 2009. I'll correct the information in the 2009 Kestrel Nesting Calendar (and update the information in the 2010 calendar) when I have more time later today. (Unfortunately, I can no longer get to the BDL cams because my Macintosh software is out of date. I'm hoping that when I get a new computer this summer that I'll be able to get to these cams again. I really miss seeing and hearing the cute kestrels and the little owls!)

Here's the link for the Israeli Kestrel in Tel Aviv: http://video.tau.ac.il/General/birds/20 ... vid_f.html. For me, that link automatically opens to the Elyakim kestrel nest; but it might not do that for others, so I'll specify that Elyakim is the nest on the 2010 calendar and the list of kestrel cam links.

Thanks again for your post,

Catbird

FYI - All the kestrel cam links that I know of are posted here. If you know of more kestrels cams worth watching, please let me know and I'll add them to the list.

Because it is now a Adobe Flash stream probably? Anyway, the Kestrels aren't there yet (Jackdaws started earlier), and the Little Owls are having a hard time competing with the Stock Doves for their nestbox :-(
I do know of one other Little Owl webcam (refresh, not streaming video) but it is now off line.

Aha, I thought for a moment you referred to the Lesser Kestrel nest in the Zoological Garden in the Tel Aviv University. Didnot find that cam on line lately.
Indeed maybe it's better to refer to "Elyakim, Israel" since it's not in TLV.
There's a site connected to it, http://www.birds.org.il/729-en/Birding-Israel.aspx that also links to the cam.

In the USA Falcon Calendar, Poughkeepsie needs to be updated to 3 chicks, not sure when the last one was born, but it is much smaller than the other 2. Unfortunately, poor little thing died & is still lying in the nestbox... :-(

Quick note ref. Kestrels, both for calender and topic with webcam links:

the webcam - "Germany - Highlander" is actually in Egerkingen, Switzerland.
(Highlander is just the type of nestbox, as far as I understand).

Thanks for the location correction! The Kestrel Nesting Calendar and Kestrel Cam Links topics have just been updated.

The hatches at Dunn need to be added to the USA falcon calendar. I went back & looked & there were no hatches on the 27th & were 2 babies on the 28th. At some point, one died, which I believe was sometime in June. The reason I noticed the absence of hatch dates is because an egg seems to have a pip in it & is still being incubated.

I will correct the Dunn dates this weekend Nancy...Sorry about the calendar not
updated on the thread. I must have hit pre-view and not submit so it went back
to the 5/26 date. The date/calendar in now 6/4
