Love the guy in the third clip -- relaxing and seemingly eying the camera.

House Finches incubate their eggs 13 - 14 days. I've been watching this nest for eight days, but I don't know when the eggs were laid.

Only a mother could love.

They remind me of little alligators. :sunconfused:

There is also one tiny one without feathers, but I guess he is ok as he's made it this far.

:girlsad3: Beth, I have seen that happen before, it was discussed here I thought at bcaw, was it a hummingbird? Cant remember the bird or the outcome, and if it wasnt discussed here at bcaw, then it may have been on the rescue site in WI for REGI, raptor education group inc. rescues. Maybe one of the rehabbers here would know WHY it happens, is it a vitamin deficiency or bloodborne virus he was born with or what. Also I cant remember if there was anything they could do or not.

Maybe someone here can comment and tell us (with bad memories) how this happens. I cant look at the cam im too afraid it will be a bad ending if he is not rescued.

:nailbite:

p.s. edit: Im thinking it was one of Phoebe's hummingbird babies that happened to last year?

What? He has some kind of disorder? He was hatched like 4 days behind the others, I thought that was what was wrong with him. He is such a fighter and seems so strong . I sure hope that he doesn't die. Well nature is what nature is. Looks like the cam may be stuck.

:redface ljames and beth, I thought from the posts that this baby was not growing feathers!! Cam is stuck, but I am so sorry if my post was confusing! Did not know he was hatched 4 days after others, I somehow took it he was still featherless, oh my soooo sorry!

Well, I just assumed he was the one hatched late.

Image

He sure is getting knocked around in there. can you see his little head in the middle?

I think that he is getting feathers though.

Now he just needs to keep pushing his way to the front of the pack to get the food .

I was having trouble finding him today, but finally he squeezed his way to the front. He is so small, were the others this small?

I have not been able to get the cam for several days now and am anxious as to what happened to the baby. While looking, I stumbled across another forum and I couldn't believe some pictures I saw, one of the chicks swallowing a mouse. :shock
