Monsieur brings food to Madame

Video: Beautiful Eastern Bluebirds

Madame has five eggs in her nest! She leaves for a few moments. Monsieur brings her food, which she takes from his beak. Then she returns to the nest box to resume incubating her eggs.

Recorded 5:10 PM local time

Sialia sialis

From the website:

"These cams are located in Maine, New York State, one inside and one just outside a nesting box. They will hopefully allow us to follow the nesting, egg laying, brooding and then the hatching and raising of chicks. The beautiful Eastern Bluebird is a member of the thrush family, as is the American Robin. They eat insects as well as berries. They nest in open fields or orchards. They will raise one to three broods per nesting season. The cams run from around 7 AM to 9 PM EDT during periods of nesting activity."

Oystercatcher WEBCAM is up and running (!)

Facebook info ...
Oystercatchers on the roof:
Proudly announce that we now have completed their egg laying. Three eggs are in the nest, where it was last weekend. During the week of 5/9, the webcam will be mounted, and the live broadcast will be available. The last of three eggs was layed the weekend.

I looked up incubation for Oystercatchers - Lasting Between 24-39 days.
**beans do you know if incubation for Oystercatchers-starts with first egg laid or last egg laid?

I am not sure when we start the countdown, aka Hatch Watch, for the eggs. Most of my reference books are for North American birds. If we use May 8 as day 1, then we can start watching for chicks 24 days later, according to the information you have posted.

Video: Rooftop Oystercatcher Incubates her Eggs

Kjellaug and her mate Kjell are back at their rooftop nest in Bergen, Norway. When Kjellaug returns to the nest, she gives the cam a few good pecks before settling down on her eggs.

Recorded at 7:37 PM local time

Norwegian name: Tjeld

Haematopus ostralegus

From the website:

The Eurasian Oystercatchers usually breed on the ground in open areas. The concept of roof-breeding is known from different sites. Aberdeen in Scotland is known for its population of roof-breeding Oystercatchers, counting about 230 pairs in 2004. In other countries the phenomenon is more uncommon, but is recorded (at least) in the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Latvia, Germany and Norway.

"The Oystercatcher is one out of very few shorebirds that actually feed their young. This is also a condition for successful breeding on roofs up to 30 meters above the ground. In Bergen the adults feed in the parks near the building where they breed, and bring the food for their young. It seems that they mainly deliver Earth-worms Lumbricidae sp. to the chicks. The chicks stay on the roof until they are more or less able to fly.

Oystercatchers have been breeding on roofs in Bergen city, western Norway the last five years (since 2000). In this period at least three different roofs have had breeding birds."

Thanks so much, Kitten, for the great news from the Goshawk nest. I'll have to start checking in on the cam.

:hi: Hope this is the right place for heron pics. Here is a shot of mom checking in on her "chicks" or whatever you call baby herons? You can see one of the chicks, I saw two, but there could be 3? They kept face planting, so I guess mom had just fed them before I tuned in. Hard to get shots here, the tree is blowing like crazy and check out the sliding angle of the nest eeks! Looks like babies could slide right off in the strong winds they are experiencing this late afternoon, early evening. The other day I saw dad and mom making a switch, but the pic did not come out good, too many wings, the wind, too much movement, etc.

Here is one of the babies looking

:redface Here is a link to the cam through critterzoom. It is affiliated with the WA DF&W who hosts the barn owls, bats, and other critters.

Because we have several nests in this thread, it is helpful to include the link to the live cam in our posts :-)

:redface So sorry beans, I went and edited and placed it there. If anyone missed it, here is the link to the WA DF&W critter cam for the herons. They switch between 2 different locations. This one is near a building or home in the background, and I also have heard a train whistle quite loudly! The other cam they switch to under the same link, is in a more wooded section with multiple nests and they zoom in. It used to be quite awesome, and I am hoping they will once again switch to the 2nd nest which I remember watching in June or later last year, once they have hatchings. You might want to turn the volume down though, the herons can screetch and gurgle really loud LOL. Also, this link can send you to the barn owl or bat cams, etc that WA DF&W has.
