July 15, 2017: This looks like father coming to the nest to give mom a break. Growing so fast, the chicks are ravenous. Note that their bills are starting to look like those of their parents. Hear the dove calling to his/her mate.

Second hatch: July 7, 2017

July 19, 2017: The young doves are not quite ready to make that first flight, so their parents still feed them at the nest. One of the youngsters has moved out of sight of the camera.

    About the Nest
This condor nest, known as the Devils Gate nest, is located in the Los Padres National Forest, near Hopper Mountain National Wildlife Refuge. The parents of the chick in the Devils Gate nest are mom #513 and dad #206. Dad #206 hatched at the Los Angeles Zoo in 1999 and mom #513 hatched at the World Center for Birds of Prey in Boise Idaho in 2009. This is their third nesting attempt together but they have yet to successfully fledge a chick.

Spain, Black Vulture nest:

The young Vulture has fledged and has been back to the nest regularly. Yesterday a juvenile Spanish Imperial Eagle appeared, what a beautiful bird that is!

Wisdom has done it AGAIN!

At 67, Wisdom, the world’s oldest known breeding bird in the wild, is a mother once more! In early February, approximately two months after Wisdom began incubating her egg, Wisdom and her mate Akeakamai welcomed their newest chick to Midway Atoll! https://goo.gl/qwcgCt

“Midway Atoll’s habitat doesn’t just contain millions of birds, it contains countless generations and families of albatrosses” said Kelly Goodale, Refuge Biologist with Pacific Islands: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. “If you can imagine when Wisdom returns home she is likely surrounded by what were once her chicks and potentially their chicks. What a family reunion!”
