Petition for Doc and Sue...
We request that you strongly urge the Minnesota DNR to put aside their personal grievances and differences with Dr. Rogers, and instead reflect the real concerns and needs of Minnesota and its wildlife by immediately reinstating his research permit.

I know there have been ups and downs over the years, but I will miss reading the daily updates on the bears I have come to love. Watching Lily, Hope, Faith, Jason, Ellie, Eli, Jewel, Fern, Herbie, and learning about Shadow's extended clan opened my eyes to the world of black bears and I am so grateful to have had this experience.

:girlsad3:

I've followed them since Hope was born and this makes me sick! Very sad for all that Dr. Rogers has done and for his many devoted fans.

Dr. Rogers' meeting with the Governor was fruitless. He refused to lift the order by the DNR that the radio collars be removed by July 31st. I've emailed the Governor's office as have many others.

Dr. Rogers filed a lawsuit asking for a temporary restraining order and they have a hearing on Monday morning before a judge. Saying lots of prayers!!!

All I can say is WOW...this just really burns me up. I try to remember that there are always 2 sides to every story, but just from all that I have been reading, it sure seems the DNR is jealous and really mad at Rogers...how petty of them...this is just akin to the feds pulling the falcon permit in CA for Glenn to rescue the bridge babies in the future. It costs the feds NOTHING!!!

This is all senseless!!!

Thanks for keeping us up to date, Patti.

FYI...7/29/13

Bear researcher Lynn Rogers (MN bears) can keep DNR permits, and collars on current 10 bears, while administrative case is pending. Judge ruled.
Judge's ruling allows hand-feeding of bears to continue by Lynn Rogers, for maintenance of collars. But non-staff can't be within 150 feet.
Another condition in Rogers Bear Research ruling -- den cams can't be hooked up to live Internet feed. Can be put in DVDs for classrooms only...

Sad news recently.

1) Aster was shot and wounded on Sept 7. Aster is June's daughter.

2) Dot was killed today

Both of these females were radio collared, wearing bright colored ribbons.

In a way, I feel the recent political struggles between the DNR and Dr Rogers is taking its toll on the bears. Dr Rogers was able to keep the collars on the bears currently collared, but cannot add and cannot replace if a bear is lost. To my knowledge, the DNR was to send out a memo to hunters, asking them to spare the radio collared bears with ribbons, but their memo only included bears with tags in their ears. Sad, but I feel like this is purposeful killing of these research bears. I pray I'm wrong.

I feel the same way. :( These people have created a firestorm for Dr. Rogers. They are ruining his life's work and I just cannot understand how people like this look themselves in the mirror in the morning.

I was so angry about Dot last night. I was on the 'Lily bear with a bounty' FB page and saw a post with a very awful 'poem' about Hope ... I copied it onto my page ... and this morning I've been blocked on FB for 12 hours for that very post. I'm sure someone on the bounty page is responsible for that.

<sigh> I guess I shouldn't stay up half the night on FB reading every post. Gettin myself in too much trouble.

Just found this update and am feeling numb....

June has been killed.

She had 2 cubs with her. No word on the cubs Ember & Cole.

June was Lily's mom...

She was radio collared with a GPS unit and had ribbons on her.

Senseless... Just senseless...

I fear the hunters won't rest until the remaining 5 bears are dead, thus ending the research.

Kris-I agree...

The DNR has a huge influenced on the hunters with their negative/combative vibes AND
-lack of compassion- for research bears.

They are making sure that Doc and Sue feel their warlike-hostile DNR actions.

What will the cubbies do without MoM June :((((

FYI...Letter on facebook from Maureen Kintyer
Received this on my timeline...(I think the mayor of Ely wrote a
comment~not sure if it was posted on facebook - please correct me if I am wrong)

Friends of the Wildlife Research Institute, Ely, Minnesota

Letter written by Maureen Kintyer, Oct. 7, 2013 posted on Lily the Black Bear on Facebook - - - - - - - - - - - - Open Letter to Mayor Petersen.......

Thank you, Mayor. Everything you say is true. Because of NABC/WRI/LTBB FB page, Ely has become has become a destination not only for me, but for many fans. Year round folks bring their families up to the Boundary Waters for that "Ely Experience". I am one of the LTBB Fans who have voted their hearts and time to ensure fund-raising events have benefitted the Town, The Parks, The Schools and the charities nearby. All because of Dr. Rogers and his study of and education about the Black Bears of Minnesota. Unbelievably, Dr. Rogers has not been given any credit for the honor and positive impact he has brought to this beautiful North Woods wilderness. His work is known around the world, supported by peers and regular people alike. Instead, the DNR wishes to terminate the activities and create the downfall of this most important project... The Study of MN Black Bears by Lineage and Behavior. It is disgusting that Dr. Rogers and research bears are being so targeted and disrespected. Here you have a professional and world-known Black Bear Researcher who has devoted his whole life to his work, being humiliated and brushed aside like a pesky gnat. It is horrible that this project may come to an end. Please, won't you help secure an acceptable research permit for Dr. Rogers with whatever means and support you have possible? Thank you...... Maureen Kintyer
