From looking at the family tree on the webpage, it doesn't appear to be unusual for bears to give birth to 3 cubs in one year. Since Lily still has Hope to nurse & take care of, I'm hoping she stops at 2! :shock:

What is unusual is Lily having cubs 2 years in a row. They say its usually every 2 years.

SGB what a great job! It is true, Hope was a screamer. We are all educated now to recognize a black bear female's grunt sound when giving birth!!! Great vids, from the sounds you knew exactly what was happening, it was really cool to hear. Glad only 2, our Princess Hope will always be number 1 though!! :wink:

One of the newborns was just having a fit & keeping everybody awake! This is Hope's snout that you see. She has been in the back of the den (where its probably warmer), but she acted like she was considering leaving the den in this pic so she could get some rest! Newborns will do that to you! :lol:

Cute pic, Catwoman....ya know, everytime I checked the cam last night, it looked like Hope was awake...I do wonder what she must be thinking!! I'm sure glad she and Lily had some play time the night before!!

It was reported from the Bear Center that there are definitely 2 cubs, because they could hear one screaming while another one was nursing.

The cubs are less than 24 hrs old and we've already caught a glimpse of them -- and witnessed big sister Hope licking them -- amazing!

Oh Eiguoc--what a beautiful video!!! Thx soooo much for posting that! It looked like Hope stuck her head in there and licked the newborn too! I am soooo proud of her being accepting!! And to see that little hamster sized bear cub is soooo precious! Brings back memories of Hope's birth. I was tickled silly watching it, thank you so much for posting it :wavingsnowgirl:

I was hoping that Hope would take a big sister attitude & help Lily teach them things when its time to leave the den.

I watched for a while this afternoon & although it seemed like one of the newborns was screaming every 10 minutes or so, Hope kept sleeping. At one point, I did hear her nursing! :smile:
