Shep, Mrs. Berry suffered a leg/foot injury, possible fracture a number of years ago. She recovered on her own and has full use of her foot and talons. She was seen a year or two ago carrying a large, heavy branch in that talon alone, but when she is laying in the nest a long time, she appears quite stiff and awkward when getting up. I am sure the frigid weather down there is not helping. She probably has arthritis from the injury. She is a great mom and real trooper despite her handicap.

:coldwinter: I remember that, Nadia... I just searched for the picture but (naturally) couldn't find it! I think "they" estimated it to weigh 8 pounds! She is an amazing mom and dad seems like such a character. I love mom's little chirps... :flirty:

Freddie, nice video of Mom stretching that bad leg of hers. I looked back into the Berry College Eagles facebook page and her L leg/foot has the injury. They don't know how it happened. She returned in 2013 with the injury, but manages fine. I noticed in the recent video of the switch on 1/10/17, when she left the nest and hopped onto a branch, she favored the L foot by not bearing weight on it right away. No doubt it bothers her. I understand she can't fully lay the foot flat when she flies. I was mistaken in my prior post of her carrying the large branch in that foot. My apologies. She actually carried it in her good R foot and then dropped it. It weighed in at 12 lbs!! Good thing it didn't hit anyone on the ground. :girlcrazy: I love her soft vocals to Dad. So sweet. I can't get enought of the videos. Keep em coming. Here are pics from Nov 2015, courtesy of Berry College Eagles facebook page.

Beautiful, calm, sunny day today at Berry College. Took this pic at 11:50 am this morning. Temp was 67 and the parent on the nest looked warm. I can't tell if this is Mr. or Mrs. Berry. Given the hairdo, I'm thinking the Mrs.

Thanks, Nadia, Freddie, and Shep for your pics, videos and observations...
Mom IS incredible - I thought the "2015 stick" was only (LOL) 8 pounds; can you imagine, 12 pounds!

I was able to catch a switch today. Here's a glimpse of the 2 eggs and the parent returning to do an egg roll and settle into the nest.
