Mar 22, 4:59 PM
aka_AEF (Moderator): The techs have determined the outage is an internet problem and is being address. The problem will be resolved as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience. Thank you Gretchen, Connor and others!

Cam update and Tuck:

Mar 23, 8:20 PM
gretchen_AEF (Admin): SATURDAY TUCK: Both Samson and A2 were at the nest perched and enjoying the sunshine upon our arrival early this morning (photo link above). They were both there as well at tuck tonight. They soon flew and A2 returned and perched on LOP. Then 2 eagles came flying to the nest with some vocals as A2 jumped into the nest. One was chased away. When we left, it appeared to be Samson perched at the nest, and most likely A2 will return as well. If not, they will likely be at the nest in the morning. SED
Mar 23, 8:50 PM
gretchen_AEF (Admin): Stream Update: Cams are still down and will be until tomorrow. The router was replaced, and our AEF and on-site technicians (Connor & Glenn) will attempt some more fixes tomorrow with hopes to remedy the problem. Thank you for your patience.

A2 and Samson are on the nest tonight! The 1st set of pics are of visitors to the tree during the 2016-2017 season (a surprisingly diverse group of birds and others), 2nd set is of Samson and A2 arrival tonight and 3rd is of Samson crossing his infamous toe!! And the "Tuck-In"!

Mar 24, 8:11 PM
gretchen_AEF (Admin): SUNDAY TUCK: It was rather quiet at the nest tonight with only 2 deer near the nest to watch. Right before we left A2 arrived with some minimal vocals. Then soon after we did leave, Samson arrived. They are both fully tucked and likely going to stay put for the night. Thanks to our great techs for correcting our cam issue. Connor + Glenn = TECH TEAM AWESOME! Please join us at 9am for chat tomorrow! SED Y'all

:16val: Thanks, Shep!! I got to see him for awhile, before he left. I know they believe it's a she d/t size. I say he or it till I decide. I tell you, I thought A2 was in the tree @ 1st, till I realized there is about a 7 second delay from sound to cam. I can still hear him now in the near-distance. His talons and foot are still swollen, but a little less so. He is doing toe-touching now on the right. And lightly rests the foot on the ground now when standing in resting state, but I did not see weight-bearing, not even light, weight-bearing, when he left to fly. He is still holding it up. When he held his right foot up, still could not see movement yet of the front talons that made me think he had control of them. But, when resting foot, the front talons were in an extended state, even if only due to the toe-touching causing this. Before, this did not happen as there was not even toe-touching then. They remained in a flexed state. So, hoping no contractures form, but doesn't look good if movement does not return soon.

:1val: The sub-adult is spending the night!

Mar 25, 5:16 PM
jd_AEF (Moderator): Gretchen reports that the sub-adult was seen by a neighbor landing in the Sleeping Tree Amazing eagle. So happy she is gaining her confidence back.
Mar 25, 5:58 PM
leigh_AEF (Moderator): Good evening everyone! At first I thought this was A2 but after looking closer I'm wrong. I think this is the Guardian angel of our sub-adult.
Mar 25, 6:18 PM
leigh_AEF (Moderator): The visitor arrived at 6:27 and is perched on Lookout Point.
Mar 25, 6:34 PM
leigh_AEF (Moderator): Our sub-adult arrives back at the nest at 7:32.
Mar 25, 7:42 PM
leigh_AEF (Moderator): The sub-adult joined the visitor on Lookout Point at 7:47 and they perched together. At 7:54 the visitor flew to the Wallenda branches then to the nest to Sunset and flew. The sub-adult flew at 8:00 and returned to the nest. The visitor returned quickly to the Wallenda branches and flew. The sub-adult is in the nest dozing. Please lay down and get a good nights rest. This eagle sure is strong and knows our Hamlet is a wonderful place. Sweet dreams to this sweet eagle and to all of you!

Mar 25, 8:37 PM
gretchen_AEF (Admin): MONDAY TUCK: Catch the play-by-play above posted by cam op, leigh_AEF. It was an exciting evening seeing the injured sub-adult return to the nest at length. Then she flew directly to the Sleeping Tree and perched! We were a bit surprised to hear she landed fine on one foot! Upon her arrival at the ST two birds bailed, and she even gave an Osprey flying over-head a piece of her mind (he kept on flying!). She was at the ST for approx 1.5 hrs preening and just being "eagle".
Mar 25, 8:41 PM
gretchen_AEF (Admin): The sub-adult is one tough bird. She later flew back to the nest and joined another eagle that was actually perched with her when she was at the nest 2 wks ago! She is currently fully tucked in hopes to have an uneventful night's roost. She looks good and is improving. Healing will take time, but she's a
warrior!

Here are pics of the sub from today taken by the mods or ground crew:

Mar 25, 9:10 PM
jd_AEF (Moderator): And more photos from the afternoon showing the young eagle's progress: https://www.flickr.com/photos/94664847@ ... res/84MNvh

:15heartbeat: I just can't get enough of this one ... so beautiful!! Love that face!!: :15heartbeat:

Baby zzzzzz
March 26, 2019
Dawn finds the injured juvie sound asleep tucked into the nest. :-*

NEFL injured sub adult update
- this may be one of Romeo & Juliets offspring who came home to heal

AEF-NEFL ~ Injured Sub Adult Resting Foot
Closeups ~ Some Improvement Seen 3.25.19
via ladyhawk
https://youtu.be/QtEeQ6vbWow

The injured sub adult came back to the nest this afternoon and spent some time resting his/her foot. Closeups of the right foot show less swelling and he seemed to put more weight on it while standing. It obviously still is a serious injury, but it does seem to be healing. The SA did some crop drops while on the nest which indicates he/she is eating and maintaining strength.
The SA flew off on its own hopping on his good leg to takeoff.

:7val: Thanks for posting that pic and video, Shep!! I just checked and the sub is sound asleep lying in the nest. Beautiful! Did you know that some of the mods here think this sub is an offspring of Romeo and Juliet. I remember reading this during one of their chats after he 1st showed up and had made repeated visits to the nest. The video was made during the time period that I had watched him and commented on above. The nest is certainly handy for him to sleep in a lying state rather than have to stand on 1 foot all night on a branch somewhere! Here are some pics from the mod taken overnight:

I watched him awhile
He is perched on a limb
He drew his injured foot up and cried out -
- as I would do if I had a sudden pain

A beautiful flock of many white birds flew past. AWESOME! :3snowflake:

:16val: Thanks, Shep! The visitor arrived to a limb earlier and has since moved to the nest. The sub remains on the branch with his back to us. I can see he is holding his right foot up and off the branch from this view though.
