The kids have been on the wing for a week now and are doing well. Romeo and Juliet must have instructed the kids to come home when they need a rest, as they have been sleeping in the nest tree every night since fledge and nap in the nest during the day in between explorations of the Hamlet. It is so nice to keep seeing them at the nest and know that they are thriving. Here's some pics from today.
1148 am - The kiddies resting in the nest. Big sister Sky is below.
1150 am - Food drop by a parent with Spirit (on the right) grabbing the fish, a nice big Mullet, and mantling it. He didn't get to keep it very long though. As he started to eat, his sneaky sister snuck her head under his tail and pulled the fish right out from under him...lol.
1158 am - Sky got some good big bites of fish and filled up pretty quick. Once she was done, she let Spirit take the fish back and flew off to explore the Hamlet, leaving Spirit to eat in peace. Sky in the foreground after giving up the fish.
12pm - Spirit enjoyed the rest of the fish and downed all of it.
1227pm - After a short fly-about, Sky returned to the nest and checked for any scraps of food left behind by her little brother. Spirit, on the right, had his head in the moss, aerating the nest like a big eagle. He wanted to take a nap and was making a nice comfy spot for himself.
1236pm - Nap time for both teenagers. Sky on the left. These two really like being close.
2:12pm - When I looked in later in the afternoon, Juliet had brought in a fish and fed Sky while Spirit was off on an adventure. Mom still wants to feed the kids. She is so sweet with her babies.
Tonight, the whole family is sleeping together in the nest tree.
