17 weeks old this weekend and it looks like big sister Sky may has finally gone off on her own to make her way in the world.

Sky was last seen yesterday (Sunday) morning. Both eaglets have returned to the nest tree to sleep every single night since fledge and most nights, they sleep perched side by side. On Saturday, Sky was soaring alone overhead and that evening, she slept on the opposite side of the tree away from Spirit. Last night, she did not return to the nest tree to sleep. Spirit is still present. I have some Saturday pics of Spirit and a recent video of the two eaglets that I will post later.

This was such a wonderful season at this nest. To see the eaglets daily after fledge up until dispersal has been such a treat. Romeo and Juliet did a great job. It is always sad to see them go, but their independence is a mark of success. Wishing Sky a great life as she embarks on her own in this great big world. Be safe Sky and always fly free. :15heartbeat:

It's been very rainy in northeast Florida. Here are some pics of Spirit from Saturday and today.

Saturday 717pm - A very soggy Spirit during a down pour.

Saturday 739pm - Spirit.

Today 557pm - Lots more rain today. Here's Spirit early this evening back at the nest tree.

Tonight, Spirit is sleeping in the nest tree and Juliet is with him, keeping him company. Both very wet from the heavy rains. No sign of Sky. Looks like she really left yesterday. Here's a beautiful video of the two eaglets from 4 days ago. It opens with Spirit. His sister Sky (to his right) is pestering him for a change. Enjoy! :eggthumb: Absolutely! I could not have said that better. Watching them for 4 months and getting to know their personalities makes it so hard to say good bye. Here's a pic of Spirit today....still coming home to the nest tree on what was another rainy day in the Hamlet.

:tearhair Yikes! Thanks Gigi. I am not sure what that means. My pics are all still on Postimage. Bummer. Hope is resolves.

Anyway, Spirit made visits to the nest several times today, but he did not come home to the nest tree tonight. This is the first night he did not come home to sleep. We'll see if he shows up for breakfast. He may have decided it was time to leave, too. Boo hoo!

Go to breaking news, Nadia. Several have posted solutions there. Good luck!

:thanku Thank you Gigi and Swinwk for the info regarding Postimage and thank you SGB for posting very good instructions to remedy the situation. I restored the pics for this particular site, which is a favorite of mine.

As a little update, Spirit was last seen at the nest on Thursday around noon, 4/12 and has not been seen since. It was a beautiful day that day and a good one for traveling. It appears that he has gone off to begin his life. I wish him a safe journey and good life ahead. Romeo has also not been seen. Juliet has been briefly visiting the nest once daily since then. Today she was there for a good long while and I cannot help but wonder if she has a little bit of empty "nest" syndrome, just like the rest of us. She called out once from the nest and stayed for a good half hour. Fly free Sky and Spirit...what a great season. :15heartbeat: .

:penguin: Well...look who showed up this evening. Juliet came in with a stick and Romeo joined her in the nest to do some housekeeping. Romeo...you are a sight for sore eyes. He did a lot of digging in the nest.

:flirty: A little update. Romeo & Juliet are still in the Hamlet. They are doing heavy duty nestorations as they both molt before their anticipated migration north in a few weeks. I never knew eagles reconstruct the nest before migration, but this pair is known for doing that. Getting it ready for summer tenants...lol. Last Tuesday morning, squeeeing was heard on cam in the distance, so either Sky or Spirit were still around. Otherwise, both eaglets have not been seen since 4/12. Here's a video today of Romeo and Juliet working on the nest together. If you look at past pics, you can see how much they have built up the rails in the last 2 weeks. Romeo, the moss man has been bringing in lots of fluff. In the video, Juliet is the one fussing with the stick until Romeo takes over. In the process, he molts out a tail feather. Video courtesy of Lil Sunrise of the American Eagle Foundation.

:loveshow: We had a visit from Romeo and Juliet this evening. Still in the Hamlet and still doing nestorations. Romeo brought in several sticks tonight.

Hi Bev. I understand they do. They leave from mid to late May and return in Sept. These birds are smart. They escape the heat and humidity of Florida for the worst 3-4 months of the year. A northern vacation, so to speak. Reverse migration. So, we are always on pins and needles to see if the same birds make it back in the fall. :egg19:
