Thanks Loza. I was just going to post a pic of him. He is soaked. Such a good Dad. Miserable day in the Hamlet. Heavy rain and wind. Romeo is hunkered down. Only A2 has been at the nest today. She followed Romeo out of the nest twice this morning. He did try to allow her to incubate, but she followed him out of the nest instead. This young lady may be here to stay. She is clearly interested in him. Time will tell.

hole in one egg, saw 2 ants crawling toward it

If Juliet doesnt return and A2 helps incubate, feed chicks, she may become Bride

"aka_AEF (Moderator): Good afternoon Hamlet family. Romeo continues to incubate the eggs during our rainy conditions here! He is a trooper!! Just a friendly reminder, I will not be answering pm's, so I can keep fully focused on operating the cams. Thank you very much. Romeo flies to the Wallenda Branches for a few seconds then back to the eggs. After a couple minutes more he flew off and returned to the nest at 1:45. Rolled the eggs, and did his shaking off. Hopefully he got a quick bite to eat, though I didn't notice an"

"aka_AEF (Moderator): Hopefully he got a quick bite to eat, though I didn't notice an unusually large crop. The female eagle is back at 1:55 and is perched nest side. Can be seen on WA 3 where she is in the tree. Cam 1 gives an illusion of her being closer than she is."

jd_AEF (Moderator): The NEFL ground crew recruited others to assist in a lengthy search for Juliet yesterday. Several means of awareness have been exercised. The Hamlet and surrounding area is very dense and much of the mile radius around the nest is not accessible or is private property, so any search is difficult. A stranger even offered to take the crew out on a boat to search along the intracoastal for our Juliet. Thank you to Kris and her son Edan and for our on-site photographer, Tatine.

The above was on chat at 12:15pm today.
(I didn't see it posted here, if I missed it, please ignore. :girlcrazy: )

Romeo is off the eggs right now (3:41pm); he left at 2:51pm.

A2 follows so Romeo comes back and continues incubation at 9:25. Just to clarify, A2 is the young female adult eagle that has been spending the night at the nest tree. Romeo allows us another peek at 11:26 and returns to incubate.

A2 came into the nest while Romeo was incubating at 453pm. He is not accepting of her. As he watched her approach flying in, his feathers stood up on end and he puffed himself up in defense mode. Rather than engage her in a confrontation, he got off the eggs and flew to a branch. She looked down at the eggs, but has no idea what to do. Her hormones are more toward finding a mate and not nesting. His hormones are tuned into the job he has to do with the eggs and not mating. They both flew off together and Romeo came home alone. He is incubating once again.

Has anyone had a good look at the questionable (cracked?) egg?

I watched that egg closely - saw no sign of life.
Sometimes I've seen the tiny beek pushing on the pip like a hatch door.
On these eggs - NOTHIN

I dont know how hardy the chicks are at hatch time to being eggsposed for long periods of time

Bonbon, the cam that has zoomed in on the eggs this afternoon has largely been out of focus. I haven't been able to see the spot that looked cracked yesterday, but I haven't watched continuously. Perhaps its been facing down. There have been ants on one egg all day. I am speculating that one egg may be lost. The temps are mild, so an hour off the eggs here and there may just delay hatching.

A2 came back at 532pm. Romeo got off the eggs and flew and she followed him. He returned alone to resume incubating. Maybe this is his way of getting her away from the nest. She eventually came back and it looks like she will sleep again in the nest tree.

534 pm - A2 on nest.

550 pm - A2 perched in nest tree for the night. Romeo is incubating.

During the evening chat on the cam site, AEF states there is no egg crack, but rather down stuck to the egg. I'm not so sure. I suppose time will answer everything.

Thanks, Nadia and Shep…. I thought I got a good look (sometime today - didn't notice time), and the one egg looked severely damaged to these un-expert eyes. And I also saw the ants.

I agree that it would probably be best if the eggs didn't hatch.
Nature is 'funny' - remember a couple of years ago when the Chesapeake osprey eggs were exposed to cold, rainy weather for hours - and they both hatched. (Even Dr. B. and Dr. S. were surprised.)

:15heartbeat:

(Can't remember Dr. S's name!)

LisaS_AEF (Moderator): Romeo needed a stretch and Female Eagle decides to come to the nest. Romeo steps away and she looks like she is trying to roll the eggs like Romeo, but she is not there yet. They were exchanging vocals and after perching a short time on Wallenda branch it's PS time and back to work for Romeo. Cam 1 is currently down, Cam 2 you can view Romeo incubating. Female Eagle is perched on Wallenda off cam.

LisaS_AEF (Moderator):

Shortly after 1:00 am She makes her way down to the nest. Romeo exits and goes to the Wallenda branch. No egg roll, but she attempted to aerate the nest. Low vocals from her again while Romeo is leaving the nest. SHe then went to the sunset branch only briefly before she goes over to towards Wallenda branch also. SHe then moved closer to Romeo. He leaves the Wallenda branch, they both vocalize and then Romeo returns to the nest 1:38 am. She is still trying to say something,

Dec 21, 20218 my own notes
cam 1 is down, must be why I cant get it - lol

:o 6 am Missy came and Romeo left, she stood over the eggs.
One is cracked, hatching, I saw movement
The chick is pushing, pushing - we should see him out today
Missy stands over the eggs vocalizing *SQUAWK SQUAWK*
Romeo preens up on a branch

6.30 he's on eggs and she is SQEEAWKing elsewhere
The mod is NOT mentioning the hatching egg

7 am She nudged him off the eggs again and he flew off
She appears to like the eggs but is not incubating
Presumably she is hearing the life of the chick(s)

I expect a chick today
Will Missy help feed it?

:bsana:
