:15heartbeat: His head and beak look as if a 3 y/o which is (G) as shown here:

From Southwestern Bald Eagle Management Committee

So far, what I have seen of his tail is dark, but need to look more. And they can vary some in progression. I can not find my photo chart of age progression, that I used to use years ago.

it is certainly younger than 4. it could have hit a landing too hard and jarred its leg or foot. We had that with a young falcon one year, and had to watch from the ground for two weeks. but everyday it go t better, but we were waiting in case we had to rescue. With all the storms and winds in the area, I would not be surprised.

I think that is how ma berry injured her leg worse last year. If we all remember they had a tornado in area

I was watching him and he can extend the rear talon. Still did not see any movement of the front ones. There is no weight-bearing on the right leg as he is standing now. He seems to have full range of motion to the right hip and knee as he appeared to extend and flex both during a stretch, but I don't know about his ankle area (area that Ma Berry has problems with) or @ least as these joints correlate to human joints.
Brought this forward where I can add to it if I want.

Marked swelling of right foot as seen in the pics from AEF MOD :

talons crossed, that he heals and if not , they can rescue him. it is harder when they can fly. I know how hard it is ot rescue a young falcon let alone an eagle. :girlcrazy:

gretchen_AEF (Admin): UPDATE ON AUDIO: Our technicians have exhausted themselves attempting to correct the audio since the ant invasion. A piece of equipment that is necessary is on order. We hope to have the audio activated on Wednesday-Thursday of this week. Thank you for your patience.

gretchen_AEF (Admin): UPDATE ON INJURED SUB-ADULT EAGLE: The eagle returned back to the nest today prior to 2pm and had a full crop. It's good to know the eagle is eating and relieving itself. Other than the tenderness and injury to the right leg and foot, the eagle appears healthy, standing briefly on both feet, and returned to the nest three times today. The eagle is tucked and roosting in the nest again tonight. We are hoping with some rest, the eagle will heal. Conferring with professionals, it isn't advised to (continued)
Mar 11, 8:50 PM
gretchen_AEF (Admin): intervene at this time as we have a fully flighted eagle. Any nest intervention requires approval by USFWS. At this time that approval wouldn't be granted given the strength and flight ability of the eagle. Be certain we are observing passionately by cam and ground observation. The eagle is sleeping peacefully. SED to all!

thanks SWINK

yes, when they can fly well, you can create a lot o f harm, trying to rescue them. It requires, laying a trap, trying to lure them to that trap. and the dangers of injury, in a net trap. you could injure leg more.

as we found out when listening at Berry.

but this group here will be vigilant. they will monitor well.

Thanks for the pics, Ferenz! Watched the youngster earlier this morning and still do not see any weight-bearing on the right leg nor movement of front talons on the right. No decrease in swelling. Wonder if this is a tendon injury. A2 is back today. Hope she doesn't chase him off if they are on the tree together.

visitor brought a puffer fish! to the nest and began eating, but stopped

pufferfish contain tetrodotoxin, a substance that makes them foul tasting
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/anim ... pufferfish

I like to watch 'TANKED' on the animal channel.
They love the friendly puffer fishs

:1val: I would have liked to see the puffer! Here's an update from Gretchen:

Mar 12, 8:07 PM
gretchen_AEF (Admin): TUESDAY Tuck-In: We have the Visitor fully tucked at the nest tonight. A2 joined the Visitor during chat arriving with vocals as heard from the ground. Our injured eagle flew this morning directly to the Sleeping Tree area and landed on the ground near the pond. The eagle hasn't returned to the nest. We checked the ST area several times today, and she wasn't there. . .likely due to all the construction workers in that area and lawn crews. The eagle likely found a more private place.

:16val: Scanned chat from earlier this eve and found a mod saying they are:

"sending everything we can to the Vet Techs @ Birds of Prey as well as AEF"

such as reports I assume and pics for sure of the injured sub-adult who is not in the nest this eve.

gretchen_AEF (Admin): WEDNESDAY Tuck-In: Our Visitor has spent a lot of time at the nest the past few days and much of today. He is fully tucked on LOP and full nest view just in case the injured eagle happens to return. She has flown both nights she has spent at the nest. We are hoping and praying she is ok and we see her again. Any sightings will be posted. No worries with the pufferfish injested by A2 and the Visitor. A2 was also at the nest today and just fine. SED Y'all
