Shep, I agree with AEF's assessment. If you need more information, you can always check the NEFL-AEF website's event log.

I am at the office without cam access and I am not looking at BCAW with any frequency during the week. There are a lot of eagles in the area. Many are young. Hopefully, things will settle down at this nest. We can expect this type of upset with the ever increasing eagle population. I am not getting excited over new birds appearing at this nest. At some point, a new pair will take over. With more eagles around, it is coming down to survival of the fittest as nature intended. Those birds that can hold a territory will successfully nest and this will result overall, in a better eagle population.

Have a good day everyone.

Okay, I had to learn how to copy and paste on my new laptop. So far, AEF has not posted anything but sub-adults visit from earlier in the eve. This is the video of new female (now being called Girlfriend or GB) ousting the sub-adult, although you don't actually see d/t scanning for action, but hear I guess. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN_L7SKVRsc To edit: Back with other info in a bit. Edit to add: Video is by Deb Stecyk and Copyright 2019 American Eagle Foundation, EAGLES.ORG

at 5:29 in video you see someone fly down, behind eagle on branch. you could hear someone still in tree before that.
Because I live in Alberta I was up , and I heard vocals way before this. the subadult and male both were responding . I had my recorder on so I could look back.
at about 6:30 in video you can still hear some branch movement.
like most young raptors, it was looking for a free meal and a place to perch.I personally believe the adult female was hoping youngster would leave . They are tolerant of juveniles but at some point they outstay their welcome, if nesting is starting.

many time we have gone through the Delta valley in B.C, just before nesting . in the trees and along the rivers you see ealges of all ages, eating and perching.

so although I like to see sub adults, I am hoping this young 5 year old pair can continue in peace Hopes for at least one egg.

this is not a site I watch all the time, but hoping for a good outcome. these mods and the ones at SWFC are very good and knowledgeable.

jd_AEF (Moderator): Mods are consulting and have decided the female that has been perched is A2, not GF. :girlsad3:

gretchen_AEF (Admin): MONDAY Tuck-In: Hmm. . .not much to report tonight! Viewing from behind the nest at 5pm Samson was perched and a Female Eagle from a few weeks ago, A2, came in for a landing on the Wallenda branch. Samson didn't seem to give a mighty welcome, but she never posed a problem. She soon flew and Samson later flew. They weren't seen in the Hamlet, but the eagles of late have been arriving at odd hours. The street lights in the area must guide them. Each day delivers a different scenario. Stay tuned! SED

I want it to be GF, but she bit him on the shoulder kind of hard. He didn't like it and moved away from her. The only way I know GF is the light gray of the head and tailfeathers. This one doesn't seem to have the light gray of the head, but it's dark out. I keep hoping AEF will update and say who it is for sure. I'm afraid it's A2.

Watts up up there?
January 15, 2019
Samson and his womens
NE FL eagle 2019
https://www.nefleaglecam.org

4.15 am Vocals from 2 eagles very close together on branch
Who are they and why are eagles flying around at night?
4.34 am More vocals
5 am More vocals
This is getting nuts

6 am I hear a distant eagle call
6.15 pm Both eagles vocalize
WOW, This female is BEAUTIFUL no matter who she is!

6.24 am More vocals, she invites mating, he notices ... nope

How odd is it for eagles to be calling all night long?

6.50 am DAWN. Wild vocals, I heard a scolding vocal too - and a killdeer in the disance

Morning has broken - and with it, the mystery
Listen to this song as you read :)
https://youtu.be/h5D3LEjGF8A

- Sam drops into nest - 5 minutes later she follows, both fuss around
7.08 am Sam leaves this female, she follows

B2 or B3 or a newB ??
OK now I am ready to say the female Sam spent the night with is NOT B2 or Missy.
Lets see what the mods say. I CAN SURE BE WRONG!
3 pics of her on RRP

:teehee: Shep, when AEF announced A2 was perched in the tree the 1st time, that bird was no longer there when I went to cams. I thought I have no idea who A2 is. Sooooooooooo, I went back prior to Romeo's disappearance and read page by page on this forum till now. And from what I read and understood, A2 is who you referred to as Missy.

th e eagle perched at 10:27 i believe is the female with the war wound talons.

they are focusing on the talons

that is the one that was here just before GF

I saw the came claws yesterday on female in nest but kept quiet as I do not want to rock the boat. but I think it is rocking on its own :teehee:

edit to add picture

but in reality, it may take awhile for them to sort this out,. This is what happened at shepherds town last year after Belle was displaced after laying her first egg

with all the storms here and eagles losing nests in trees, trees falling over, they may be looking for new areas. Who knows.

so just hoping for calm here

Glad you 2 posted
Thank you

I am going back to calling her Missy - on your say-so

AEF closeup of talons - clearly wounds
Missy thinks B2 usurped her place
I dont think its going to be quiet there this month

Random thoughts
Jan 15 at 11 am

I always thot Sam had chosen B2 before Missy appeared.
I dont know if he's willing to be the prize if the girls fight
Romeo didnt want to fight, Juliet did and lost
His son Samson doesnt want to fight

Wounds on feet of this current eagle female AEF calls A2
WHO fought A2? Missy? B2? who?
Apparantly - so far - mods just calling this one - F

:impat:

:1snowflake2: Great photos Ferenz….they really help. It's a wonder Romeo and Juliet kept the peace for 10 yrs. Eagles are social and hang in groups when not nesting, but this is nesting season and if displaced by the storms, they may be looking for a territory, along with all the young birds becoming sexually mature.

Anyway, A2 is the very large young female that Romeo battled and was unable to push out of the nest prior to hatch. She is huge. AEF claims she spent the night last night. F1 is the first female that Samson came in with. She has a small dark spot on the left side of her beak. One of the new pics Ferenz posted shows an eagle with a spot on the left side of the beak. After F1's arrival, she later developed talon wounds. It sounds as if many of the same females are still in the area, jockeying for position.

I took 2 for RRP
Looks like one has been scrappin

nadia, I have a lot of pics on RRP
You may see something helpful there

So this is Missy trying to displace B2
It does not appear Samson is willing to be a prize

Wonder how this will play out. I hope Sam doesnt leave!

They are suppose to have chat tonight. I hope they talk about the close-up of the eagle's foot they were focusing on earlier today. It looked terrible with the missing sections of skin (whatever they call that part of an eagles foot) or @ least it looked that way to me per the live cam. Hoping it is from injury and not some sort of skin disease/disorder.
