The Family Penthouse January 10, 2019 In a sense, R&J are still here - in their offspring. Samson and his Bachelorette #2 mate spent the night tucked close together on a branch. 5.30 am Finds Bachelorette #2 in the nest poking around. jd_AEF (Moderator): Samson and Bachelorette #2 mated successfully I have a feeling Samson met and courted this girl before we knew she existed. Just a hunch. |

Thanks Nadia, I didn't know they thought Delilah had visited the nest in recent years. Isn't it wonderful to know Samson and Delilah both made it not only through that rough 1st year, but made it to adult/subadult years!! |

Both are there now. Initially, they both worked on the floor of the nest, then Samson flew to a branch, but she remained and I'm wondering if she is working on a nest bowl now ... |

EGG? So soon? Im in waiting .... January 11, 2019 In a sense, R&J are still here - in their offspring. Samson spends the night on a branch Bachelorette #2 spent the night tucked in the nest. I have a feeling Samson met and courted this girl before we knew she existed. They are so comfy, she sleeps in the nest, they mated Jan 10 - and may have mated before we saw her. She *could* even be - um .. er .... with egg ..... 4 am She wakes, pokes in nest, Samson drops down with her - silently, no vocals PS 5.30 am Happy morning vocals between the 2 6 am Is she going to lay an egg?!? NOPE! 6.15 am Vocals together, she still stands in nest 7 am Another PS In between I hear sharp vocals - unsure from who 7 am She climbs up to his branch and both sing Dawn Song together 7.07 am excited vocals - both fly into nest 7.15 And they're gone. So I was fooled. haha |

Glad she was in the nest overnight. When I left last eve, each was on a branch on opposite sides of the tree. It's terrible viewing for me this morning with all the spinning or freezing of screen. Noticed chat was experiencing same. Noticed yesterday on chat AEF Mod said it is not too late for a successful nesting season here. |

Home sweet home January 12, 2019 In a sense, R&J are still here - in their offspring. Samson and B2 spent the night tucked on a branch - together mod - 5:10 am vocals exchanged as a barred owl is heard in the distance. 6.15 am Both singing close together on branch They sure seem closely bonded. I stick by my earlier opinion they met while we only saw Missy - and I still think Missy annoyed Romeo, AEF disagrees. 6.45 am Both singing close together on branch This time I watched them. They looked right and left as they sang. ya kno what? I think they were singin - This tree is OUR tree! This nest is OUR nest! https://youtu.be/yzpH3ZrLSEM Then they dropped down into the nest together and messed around. I'd like to see them bring in fresh grasses. 9.30 am Both have flown - but I've heard eagle chatter wafting on the breeze. B2 doesnt sit in the nest screeching into the mic Here are some ground shots of them at sunset (Samson on top branch): https://www.flickr.com/photos/94664847@ ... res/2d9j65 Nice pics Ferenz! |

The sounds are beautiful and refreshing of all the birds singing in the hamlet this morning ... unlike where I am as there is only the deadening sound of snow ... |

Hi Bev. Yes, he has had 2 females. He is same male that is part of the pair that arrived on 12/28. He is a 2013 hatch of Romeo and Juliet. AEF identified him by his talon, which Juliet stepped on when he was a few weeks old. He was spotted at the nest back in July 2018. The 1st female he arrived with has been gone for a few days. Apparently replaced by a new female, F2 that he seemed quite smitten with and mated with. Both have been doing nestorations together and sleeping side by side in the nest tree the past few nights, but she has not been at the nest tree since leaving early this morning. |

Yes bev a soap opera for sure As the Nest Turns Bachelorette #2 is a lover not a fighter. GOOD. She is really fond of Sam and snuggles with him. I hear them calling to each other even if not at the nest. This is DEFINITELY their nest now. I doubt we will see any more changes. Yes Samson is Twitchy. I'd never have called him that if I'd known he's a keepr - lol Glad AEF are calling him Samson |
