I just watched a 2nd episode of bonking and E15 seems unrelenting! E16 doesn't mind giving a well placed bite back when it is able to get in position. :teehee: The mods talked about how last year, the bonking was not that bad, but this season may be different in my opinion.

:eggthumb: After the loss of E14, I had researched to the best of my meager capabilities of the chances of a 2nd clutch here, but could not find definite answers. While I knew 2nd clutches were possible after the loss of the EGGS in a 1st clutch, I did not know if it would be possible for a 2nd clutch after the loss of the EAGLET/EAGLETS from a 1st clutch as it brings the laying of the 2nd clutch much further out. And ESPECIALLY after the loss of an eaglet that was already 27 days old. I even felt a little heat here for wondering if this was possible, yet I never saw a post that indicated this had happened previously on another nest and if so where. I think it's important for us to be able to share our feelings and thoughts without being made to feel others are dismissive or condescending towards those very things. It seems even Dr. Sharpe had not heard of this before. Dr. Sharpe was asked about this very thing today and here are his 2 responses to those questions.

"I've not heard of that before and I think it would only be likely in extreme southern latitudes that breed early (see explanation below)."

Institute for Wildlife Studies Mod • an hour ago
"I've seen questions about why the birds in Florida were able to have another clutch after raising a chick for a few weeks. I think it is probably because down there they nest before the winter solstice. Because laying is primarily driven by day length, after they failed the day length was still similar to when they laid the first time."

And as for me (SWINWK), I continue to suspect this 2nd clutch of Harriet and M15's possibly has historical value for what can happen and how wonderful that is to witness firsthand!!

:loveheart2: And thanks for bringing that video here from Lady Hawk. I was thankful E15 didn't knock him over and for a second it even looked like E15 was concerned and thought about going to help! :teehee: And did you see E15 walk it's little tailfeathers right up to the rails today because it wanted something to eat ... It was lying there for quite awhile, but finally went back to the bowl!! :shock

I did see E15 walk his “little tailfeathers” over to the rail. Couldn’t believe the mobility! :teehee:

:7val: I just watched that on the DVR at 13:46, gigi. M15 had just brought in a fish and Harriet started nagging. So M15 fed Harriet. (Probably because she then gives it to the kids, but she didn't this time) Then when he finished feeding her, he started feeding himself, but Harriet continued to nag. He gave her 1 more bite and then flew off and she hushed and then provided shade for E16. E15 was by the rails at that time. As I leave at 14:55, both kids are in full view.

:1val: Right now both E15 and E16 can be seen in the moon lit nest as they are out in front of Harriet. Mom is sleeping with her head tucked and M15 is on the outer attic. Lady Hawk has a video of an osprey catching a fish in the pond and she says M15 stole it and brought it to the nest. It's the fish he fed Harriet today, but the footage does not show him actually stealing it.
