Crow report on eye infections:

E17 & E18 EYE SWAB RESULTS: Swabs of the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam eaglets infected eyes came back positive for Avian chlamydiosis. Avian chlamydiosis is a bacterial disease caused by Chlamydophila psittaci (C. psittaci), which is carried commonly by birds. This finding is consistent with our cytology results which allowed our treatment to be effective. Thanks to the incredible work by our team of veterinarians, technicians and wildlife rehabilitators, the eaglets were returned to their nest healthy and have continued to grow and thrive!

:1val: Getting a very late start here today. I am thinking the GHO's may have been seen today from the title of a video at site, but unsure and will check that out. Mod updates:

On the nest:E17 & E18
4:09p H to the veranda, attic. 4:20p H flies E. 4:45p E17 winging. 4:55p H in with a fish, E17 tries to take it, eats first. 4:57p E18 gets bites. H moves the fish, feeds E17. 5:02p H to the attic via the veranda. 5:08p E18 winging on the rails.

Yes, the Mom GHO and the fledged owlets who are now flying well from tree to tree and were in the west pasture and seen at dawn today. All 3 flew to what I think she called the bent pine in the west pasture to roost for the day. So, had hoped they had moved to a different hunting area, but apparently not. One of the mods during chat last evening said it is possible for the GHO to try and take one of the E's, to the strikes on the adults here ... it is a warning.

On the nest:E17 & E18
8:15pm It was a windy day in the pasture. The Es enjoyed the breeze under their wings. Two fish were the meals of the day. Harriet and M15 roost in the attic tonight watching over their growing eaglets. Stay safe and sleep well precious eagles.

On the nest:E17 & E18
10:01am Harriet finishes up, to the attic and out to the outer branch, feaks on the broken hook branch. 10:22a E17 walks around the nest rails, looking out in the pasture.

On the nest:Harriet
1:12p H to the outer attic, vocal. 1:43p E18 wingers and hops on and off. 2:01p H vocal. M in with a headless fish, E18 grabs it. Harriet to the nest, takes the fish, M moves a stick, then to the attic.

On the nest:Harriet
8:10p Another good day closes with plentiful food and strong wingersizing in the breeze. Harriet is on the nest with E17 and E18, M guards them from above. 3 fish and a squirrel were meals for today. Sleep safely Eagle Family

I noticed Harriet has since moved to the veranda.

:shock Just noticed that at 11 pm last evening a snake fell from the attic while Harriet and M15 there. Did not bring the screen capture from Flickr over d/t them quickly blocking the view of the snake with HS.

:taz: GHO strike on Harriet at 3:12 while she was on the veranda. She was knocked off and over down the side of the nest. I think she may have grabbed the nest with her talons slowing the fall and she continues downward. The sound of the strike and her cries seem to be a little ahead of the stream. She recovers and flies toward the left and then comes back and circles behind the tree and down onto the nest. She alerts, but there is no response from M15. I assume he is too far away tonight to hear her. I certainly hope he was not hit by the GHO wherever he was spending the night. Harriet continued to call out softly to M15 for a little bit after she returned. At 3:57 as I leave, Harriet is standing on the nest with the E's lying down. It is a matter of time before a GHO makes an attempt on the E's. Harriet continues to call out to M15 at intervals.

Gigi, I was hoping that the GHO's had moved their hunting area, because we had not heard or seen anything of them for a short period. But about 3 mornings ago, there was a video showing their young flying and even that one was capable of flying from the ground and then up to a tree. Their Mom then joined them in the tree to roost for the day in the west pasture. I'm really concerned for not only Harriet and M15, but that the E's will be involved at some point. Video by Lady Hawk:

:taz: The best clear view of what happens from the nest is about half way through the video.

:1val: Mod reports:

On the nest:E17 & E18
11:02a H aerates, up to the attic vocal. Es work on the stick. 11:10 a H vocal on and off. 11:11 H flies NW.

On the nest:E17 & E18
12:47p E18 tries to move the stick with beak, has one foot on it, now both. E18 back off the stick. Es beaking. M was seen earlier on the tall power pole NW and H flew NW.

On the nest:E17 & E18
3:26p E17 drags the fish with their foot, H to the nest, goes for the fish, E17 keeps it. 2:28p H takes it, E17 tries to get it back, H moves it. Eats some, Es get a few bites. 3:31p Tug-o-fish with both Es.

On the nest:Harriet
8:15p A cooler, windy day ends with full, sleeping E17, E18 and Harriet on the nest. M brought 3 fish meals for the Es. They did a lot of wingersizing in the breeze today. Sleep safely Eagle Family.

I can not find M15 on the nest tree and they did not mention his whereabouts for the night.

I just hate this part of nature. I feel like the Harriet and M15 can hold their own, but like you, I fear for the eaglets.

Essec09 (Admin): Afternoon. Viewers may have noticed Harriet's bottom left eyelid shut this afternoon. The eyelid has opened every once in a while and the eyeball itself doesn't appear to have a problem. It is windy and could just be irritated. This happens every so often. They can also irritate their eyes when a feather from another eagle(t) accidentally brushes it during a food drop or when they are dealing with the prey themselves.

On the nest:E17 & E18
3:11p H on the attic. E's napping. 3:14p E18 up, wingers and hops. 3:19p H vocal off and on. 3:28p E17 standing by the trunk, preening. 3:33p Down feathers flying as E17 preens. 3:40p H's eye is wide open now.

:eggthumb: This is a video by Lady Hawk of the sub adult visiting the nest tree earlier today. And who mantled their sibling when the intruder landed ... none other than E17! My favorite views are at the 2:02 minute when E17 mantles E18 when the intruder lands, 5:05 great view of the sub adult, 7:41 Harriet to the rescue, 13:05 view of Harriet favoring her left eye that mod spoke of earlier today that they believe is only irritated and are not concerned of at this point.

:teehee: Harriet was on the outer branch when E18 branched. It was fun to watch as E18 was wingercizing and seemed to get up to the veranda unaware and then really winged away. Directly E18 realized where it was and looked back and down at the nest and it was like "oh, oh"! E18 then worked to get back on the nest, although a little clumsily as was now aware. 11:53a E18 taking advantage of some shade from E17. 12:01p E17 standing on the rail studying the veranda branch.

:hmmmm At 3:45 while on the attic, Harriet reached around and pulled out a loose feather and then while holding it down with her talons, she seemed to try and break it in 2 pieces a couple times. And all the while working on it as if to extract the contents from the shaft. Unfortunately, it blew away before she had completed her task. Maybe someone will have a video later.

On the nest:E17 & E18
6:00p E18 up, stretches. 6:02p E18 wing flaps and hops, gets some air. 6:04p Harriet still perched on the pasture snag. Food Today: Fish/Partial Fish-1; Prey-1 (turtle)
