Okay, I am confused. I saw an earlier picture that looked like the only egg left was cracked. But this looks like we still have one egg.... Is that the general consensus?

Gigi, the last egg is cracked/smashed, but they're still incubating it so as small as the chances are that a chick survived that, we're still holding out a bit of hope. In watching Swift, she is doing the things that falcons do when its close to hatch time: looking under herself suddenly, scooching around, etc.

thanks for the pics, Matrix..

these are from (my) late last night...this egg looks worse. I just can't imagine why they are choosing to continue incubation with this one...unless there is a small chance that the chick is still alive in what's left of the shell...

Not the best enlargement...

When Beau came in, he really was hesitant...like he wasn't quite sure what to do with this thing..

She is currently asleep and appears to be incubating..

It most likely had/has a chick in it...I watched her scrunch it roll it and flip it yesterday...if it was infertile it would have broken open...It probably didn't survive...once the air cell has collapsed, the chick suffocated inside the membrane...
again..just keeping it real...sorry!!...i've just seen this many times with my birds...
I've even tried helping out fully formed chicks from double yolked eggs...they always suffocate when the air cell is used up/collapsed from the struggles of twins trying to pip the egg...until that beak punctures the membrane they are "trapped" in a "sack"...so to speak...

Well, like it says on the post on the website...they may have another clutch!! It looks like she lost a couple primary feathers already, but that shouldn't stop her from laying some more, I hope! Or maybe there are some orphans out there that need foster parents....This is where we are spoiled with so many watchers at some sites....Especially Rochester, where we would know from the reports whether Beau is "doing his duty" with Swift outside...Just seems odd that out of 5 eggs over two years, there has been only 1 (possibly 2 with this egg)...fertile..Like Carly, I am just wondering what is causing this...(Columbus, Ohio has been similar)

Thanks for the info, Matrix...well, whatever is going on with this final egg, she is protecting and treating it as if it is still viable...that's the sad part. They wasted no time getting rid of the other two. I almost wish Scott would go up there and take it....maybe that would trigger a second clutch...like at Lansing and Richmond...of course, those weren't great outcomes...

What a strange season this has been in some places..

Swift is currently incubating and going with the flow...

It is being reported on the Comments page that Swift has consumed the contents of the final egg and that the remainder of the egg has finally been removed...therefore, this pic is just heartbreaking. :tissue: ..I guess old habits are hard to break....

Image

Maybe they will re-clutch....but, if its a brittle shell issue, then I don't want them to...like they really care about my opinion...

Thanks SGB! But I'm gonna Hope that they try again...and If it happens again...perhaps some serious attention will be given to the obvious....something is not right here... :thud

I keep remembering that they did have "Snow" last year..... We Almost had another!!
