If Durand was human, now would be the time Dad would come in and relieve Mom, or the in-laws/aunties/grandmas would come over...

Wow.

This is starting to get sad.. There's not enough gravel there, or not a proper scrape and the eggs are rolling away from her now... Wonder why she's uncomfortable and anxious.

I don't know if you can tell from this picture, but there really is no gravel or a VERY thin layer under those eggs. They are on the wood surface and if a pebble is in the way, it might stop the eggs from rolling. I think she's moving around so much because she's trying to create a nestcup.

:help:

She's gonna beat that chick to death banging it against those eggs. Chicks are really pretty tough even though they look so fragile.

Here's another shot. How precious is that chick?

She's having a real tough time this afternoon. I don't know if it's because the chick keeps moving, or if she is trying to hatch another one, or if she just can't get comfortable. Wish we could speak/understand peregrine, so we would know.

She's moved the eggs around enough and given us plenty of views. I don't see any noticeable pip/crack/hole on any of the eggs.

2:53pm - I don't see Spark on the ledge, or hear him, but she's chupping. Maybe talking to baby?

Okay - I'm going to get off my scrape/wood/gravel issue, but just want you to see what's under her and the chick...

I think in natural eyeries, they would bring in sticks, or at least have dirt they could scrape together. On one bridge, a pair is using an old raven's nest. But unless she starts doing some major pebble moving, she's got no cup to hold her eggs, or keep a nice constant temperature.

Looks like she has finally settled down a bit.

Any of the above, I guess. I do keep hearing a strange sound like scratching, but that chick sounds weird too under there so it might just be him. Has Durand even been taking bathroom breaks? I know I worry about Clara too as she is obsessed until those eggs are hatched, then other mothers take off without a care in the world and let the dad come in immediately and feed and care for the chick.

Oh here's another picture.

Sweet little Durand is doing her best. I mean, afterall, she hasn't abandoned it, or eaten it, or stepped on it and killed it. She's crazy about the little baby it looks like. Just needs a little more experience. Wonder why she hasn't fed it?

Well that's not good either, especially as it barely got a bite. On the plus side when food does come, hopefully baby will encourage her to feed more.

Spark came by at approx. 11:07am. He landed on ledge, I think Durand gave him a few vocals and he left. I've had the nest cam up most of the day, but the ledge cam on and off for a few hours, so he could have come by after that visit and I may have missed it.

The only bathroom break she has taken was maybe when she picked up the prey from Spark, then flew off the ledge and returned prior to feeding. Then she left with prey for a minute, and returned with prey again. So, honestly, I don't think she has really had a good meal or break since baby was born.

ETA: prey exchange on ledge was close to 11AM feeding.

3:17pm - alarm calling. I've got ledge cam open and don't see anything. Maybe she's calling for Spark.

And Carly - just to confirm, the last feeding was around 11AM. I think there was a prior feed close to 7am?

And now she's alarm calling like crazy. Spark needs to get his young self in here to help out.

It's when Durand was panting in sun. Baby found shade. SGB has picture she posted earlier with caption "Look who has found the shade".

Baby is fine... has been moving...

3:27pm - Durand is doing some pebble picking, trying to build up a cup. I'm convinced that's part of the problem. She has nothing but hard wood underneath her and no cup/protection for eyas.

Good Momma...

carly, she was with the eggs and seemed to leave the little one alone, nearly in the sun..
but now she got it under her.

edit: ow sorry carly, you found the right answers yet!
I hadn't seen her yet, so I was worried. But not anymore :sum8:
