Parent brought in prey and acted surprised to not see a chick. They actually looked around a bit before taking off.

Norwich peregrine chick saved by Swedish webcam viewer

Published at 12:01AM, June 10 2013
A peregrine falcon chick that was blown off its nesting platform on the spire of Norwich cathedral was found again — thanks to a webcam viewer in Sweden.

The bird lover was watching a live webcam video of the five-week-old chick and its three siblings from his computer when he saw it fall.

Fearing that the young female had plunged to its death, he telephoned the headquarters of the Hawk and Owl Trust in Taunton, Somerset, to report what he had seen.

The trust contacted volunteers who operate a viewing area at the cathedral for the public to see the nest.

Hello all. Thank you for being patient with the Norwich peregrine chicks naming but we have had to hold off the announcement due to a development with the chicks. We will announce the names later today.

However we have some bad news to give you. We have been concerned about chick T3 for a couple of days now because she hadn't been seen and unfortunately it has been confirmed today that her body has been found on the roof of the cathedral. We think it was due to a flying accident, a post mortum is being carried out and we will report back as soon as we know.

You must remember that fledging is a very dangerous time for young peregrines and it doesn't matter whether they are on a cliff face or a Cathedral spire the risks are the same. This is nature and there is nothing we could have done to avoid this outcome. We still have three beautiful chicks left so do enjoy them.

They have named T3 Eleanor. Fly free, young Eleanor. :sorrow:

Just read on their FB page:

I am very sorry to bring you the tragic news that T4 has been found dead on ground close to the Cathedral. It is not at all clear what happened and there have been no signs that it has been ailing so we will of course be carrying out an investigation. Please bear with us. :sorrow:
