Sad loss of the egg at the IWS Sauces nest :girlsad3:
February 22, 2014 — bald eagle, birds, Eagle, eaglecam, egg, IWS, nature, raptors, Santa Cruz, Sauces

Sadly, IWS (Institute of Wildlife Studies) is reporting that it appears that the egg at the Sauces nest has been lost. It is unknown what happened, but the pair’s behavior changed this morning and they are clearly no longer incubating. IWS notes that when there is a loss this early in the season it is entirely possible that they will try again. Here’s hoping!!!

Sad news for Liberty & Spirit at Turtle Bay :tissue:
Video by Renae Tolbert

Published on Mar 1, 2014
Liberty and Spirit at the Turtle Bay bald eagle nest had laid 3 eggs. As of today, March 1, 2014, one of the eggs is missing. Ironic, one year ago today, one of their 3 eggs came up missing too. I hope this is the extent of any tragedies this year. Last year was a sad sad year for this nest.

From nest to nest, I forget how tiny these new ones are.
I love watching the parents being so tender and careful with each step. :flirty:

I can't watch the video myself, but here is the link

Video: Amazing drama at the Catalina West End nest!

April 6, 2014 — bald eagle, birds, Catalina, Eagle, eaglecam, IWS, K01, K87, K91, lightning, nature, raptors, Superman, Thunder
twizzkid
It has been an interesting year for sure at the IWS Catalina West End nest. First, the beloved mom eagle Wray, who has nested here for many years, disappeared. A young female K87 (Lightning) arrived and it appears that she and the male at the nest K01 (Superman) have been forming a serious bond. Then last night, near midnight, another female K91 (Thunder) came in and battled K87 at the nest. K91 returned to the nest apparently having won the battle. Interestingly K91 is the sister of K87. As I type today, K91 is on the nest. The male, Superman was on the nest earlier, but left when K91 arrived. So the plot thickens and all we can do is watch it play out. Link to IWS cams: http://www.iws.org/interactive_nestchat_allUstream.html pic is K91 on the nest this afternoon. and here is a wonderful video from Kate B at IWS showing last night’s encounter.
